Ok, so my mead's been bubbling away in primary for a couple of days now, do you think it's too late to throw some oranges and raisins in there? Or should they be sterilized in some way first? My gut tells me to just chuck them in and most likely nothing too bad will come of it.

You could throw it in now, or you could go for secondary. I say you might as well wait for the fruit. Let it do its thing for a few weeks, or however long you want it in primary, then just rack into a new container. But throw the fruit in the new container before you rack over. Some argue that if you wait till secondary to add fruit, you get more fruit flavor in the end.
