Yes, you can have a high efficiency.

The result of being too high is that you save too much money and each batch costs less than it should ;)

In other words, you're fine with a high efficiency and there are no known drawbacks.

I heard somewhere over 90% you'll start to get a grainy off flavor from tannin extraction. Being I don't get efficiency that high, I can't speak from experience, only from what I've read.

The wort temperature can affect the reading, which results in a higher than normal efficiency. The temperature is supposed to be 60F° for a good reading. Some devices make an accommodation for temperature, but they are not perfect.

Another thing to consider is the amount of grain. If there was an error in measuring the grain, it could increase the OG. Also, if you mash for a longer period of time at low temps of 150° or below, you will increase efficiency. And, too much crystal malts will give you an increased OG reading.

Cheers,

Can you have to high efficiency? Some say yes and others no. If so what is the result of it being to high?

High Merleti,

If you're efficiency is two hi, they're is going too bee to many sugars in your wart, witch is something to be weary of.

All grammar policing aside, I would look at your grain weight and liquid volume measurements. I've had beers that had indicated they are over 100% extraction efficiency, and I've not noticed any off-flavors in them. Still, it just seems like there is a sweet spot, that is probably in the 80's somewhere. Totally non-scientific opinion.

P.S. If English is not your primary language, I am a smarta** jerk and I apologize in advance. If it is, at least your punctuation was close...:cross:

This was the first time I used my recirculation system, so I was not sure what to expect. I guess the final judge will be in the taste test.

Sorry 2bluewagons thats what text has taught me:)
