Game, I've been debating for about 3 years to join the Army or not. Well I think I'm pretty sure I'm going to now, im thinking about going for 91F ( small arms and artillery repairer ) an army gunsmith essentially which is what I'm wanting to do as a civilian but maybe as a soldier it will help me financially and teach me more as well.

Brew on!

Good for you, I for one think it's a great idea to serve your country. You will also learn the skills you need to be what you want to be in civilian life. Win win IMO

Thanks guys, I'll do my best to stay safe, sadly I doubt they'll let me brew while I'm posted somewhere :/ hah, but depending on how much attention this thread gets I'll keep you guys posted for what's going on and when things may happen

Good luck. Worked for me. I wasn't a bad kid, but I definitely was not focused until after the Army. Enjoy it because as much as some things suck, you WILL miss it when you're older.

10 years in the Marine Corps did me good! Im in the reserve now, good option have you considered the reserve?

23 years 1 month 1 day USAF...6 wonderful beer drinking years in Germany!:mug:

Ya I've considered the reserve, I'm not sure if I want to go active or reserve. Once I talk to the recruiters I'm sure they'll push active lol. But I need to take the asvab again and see what I qualify for

If you decide to join up, GOOD FOR YOU!! If not, well I suppose thatcould also be good for you, either way, it's your choice.

13B here, for those of you who don't know what that is, have a look at this:

There are certain benefits that make it worth it, but you MUST realize that you will likely be deployed to a war zone regardles of your MOS. In other words, don't sign up unless you're prepared to step up / man-up. Not trying to dissuade you, just want you to be able to make an informed descision.

There are definate benefits to be gained & a certain amount of personal pride to be gained, just don't fall for the rosy picture the recruiter is going to paint for you. It's going to SUCK from day 1, 2, or 3, it's a little different for everybody.

If you sign up, you will be part of a brotherhood of warriors, a patriot, and a defender of the United States of America. If you serve, serve with honor. FYI: when you're in basic & they have you hold your weapon over your head & sing Happy Birthday, you should mask. ;)
Regards, GF.

I was station in Fort Sill Oklahoma for like 4 years. Be prepare for some hot ass weather

Served 8 years in the U.S. Cavalry as a Scout and learned how to brew beer on a deployment to Egypt.

Good luck to ya. I'd do it again if given the chance, had a blast and met a lot of good friends. Even with all the BS!

Cheers!

Dang guys I never thought I'd get this much attention! Ya I'm not to worried of getting deployed to a war zone( I'd be scared no doubt ) but my girl would be more worried and afraid which is understandable. But honestly I'd feel UNamerican if I didn't serve, I'd feel like I cheated my self and my country. And I'm very sure it will suck I've heard the stories from my brother whose a 31B lol.
I'm leaning towards reserve so I can go to my gunsmithing school in 2013. But I guess it all depends on what the recruiters share with me, if I'd have to stop school for the army I'll put the army on hold for like 2 years.

What kind of beer did you brew in Egypt? (I'm a white guy, very white... And I'm getting sun burnt thinking about it but I've always wanted to go to egypt, or Israel, Jordan, lol) I also need to be more diligent with my Arabic home studies if I went there haha ;p

One of the guys had his stuff shipped over so all kinds. It was just another peace keeping BS deployment like all the rest.

I wasnt impressed with Egypt or the surrounding area. Just another armpit of the world in my opinion, maybe Uncle Sam has clouded my judgement but oh well.

Well it's official, I am joining active army, once I get married to my girl so I don't have to give up custody of my baby girl I'll hopefully be joining in as an armorer, or a mechanical field. :) I'm not sure when I'll get mailed for basic/ait, but I'll keep you guys updated as I can
