We have a fleet contract for all our company vehicles. If you need maintenance done on your car or truck, you first have to clear it with Fleet HQ. They usually cheap out and avoid doing anything until it actually ceases to run.

My truck has been having brake issues for months. The ABS and brake warning lights keep coming on, although everything seemed to work fine. I took it in once, but Fleet wouldn't authorize repairs because everything was still working. So, I had to put up with all the warning lights and dings for months.

Yesterday, the brakes finally went out. Thankfully I was pulled over and parked, so there was no harm done to myself or others, and there was a public parking lot 1/2 a block away that I was able to coast to. Of course, then they had to haul it away via tow truck, who promptly lost my keys and fleet credit card.

Obviously this is the more reasonable way to fix a problem, instead of--oh, I don't know--fixing it 4 months ago when I first mentioned there was a problem. Grr.

That's unacceptable, I hope you have some kind of vehicle log or email trail to protect yourself in the future.

You get in an accident and they'll say you knew about the problem for months and did nothing to address it.

Also, BCC your personal email account on any emails dealing with this and forward any you get from them.

I know. Annoying as it was, it could have gone down in about 100 other ways, all varying degrees of "worse". I was very fortunate.

I would make a complaint about that one. A transmission starting to slip is one thing but no one should ignore brake issues.

A contractor I work with always calls me with 12hrs notice to meet me with XYZ from corporate while they are out from XYZ state. So now he always goes to voice mail with a call the next day unless it is an urgent issue. :cross:

Next time they refuse to fix something, take the problem into your own hands. Let the truck coast to a stop against the building a few times and see how they feel about brake issues then.

If you are using autocad you can fill the gaps by downloading pics and tracing them to create vector art. The neat thing with that, as you already know, is the same file can be scaled up or down as much as you want without losing quality. The same graphic can be used for a bottle label, or a wall plaque.

...or at least that's what I've heard.

ive recently fallen in love with Utah and Arizona, they're not all desert.

Depending on your tolerance for heat or cold, pick a place with cheap land and low taxes, then find out where farming no longer makes money or where rednecks were the only residents. Southwestern Missouri, most of Arkansas, Smokeys in North Carolina, Southern Indiana, most of Iowa, most of Oregon not Portland or Salem,etc.

Unless you plan the hard road of "self sufficient" the utilities availability and stability is the second most important after the privacy.

Edit: Forgot to include probably one of the best deals right now, West Texas...if you can handle the heat.

I just closed out a three year project that required tracking over 70 different items that had no clear owners at start of project. Had to migrate every one of them differently, on different timelines, to different standards...without losing ANY of them..in that timeline.

And I get to watch other people get promoted or new job opportunities.

So...my three year project had one last dependency. The last couple months I had to take it on myself to make sure that person's dependency stayed on track, I set up the weekly status to make sure I got an answer. One out of something like 75 items over three years, and I had to monitor her for last four months to make sure....

....guess who just got 50% of the recognition in the 'yay we are done' email.
