I got a thick krausen forming at day 6 of fermentation. First time I'm using apple juice so I'm wondering if thus is normal.
Using safale s04
4.7 oz turbinado
3oz table sugar
1 gallon if Motts aj
1 tsp yeast nutrient & 1/2 tsp energizer split 3 times on day 1 day 4 day 8.

2 gallons going like this both formed krausen layer on day 5.

Appears as if the lees floated to the top. Very active fermentation so far.

I've seen similar to that on my S-04 batches, generally not as thick as yours though, as I'm fermenting at about 55-60 ambient. on mine, if I give it a quick swirl, it generally breaks up and begins to settle to the bottom.

So far no problems with that yeast, but it's only been 1.5 batches done with it so far.

Looks fine to me. There are some brewing styles that encourage Krausen. Just leave it when racking.
