Hometown Blonde is such a good beer. Paying Thumbprint prices stings a little bit, but not enough to stop me from buying it.

Another smooth release at New Glarus, and Deb and Dan Carey remain two of the best people in this industry. Both of them walked the line in the morning to shake hands and personally thank everyone for coming out. Loved listening to Dan's explanation of the beer and what to expect from it now and in the future.
blood bank.
What the **** kind of "blood bank" have these people been to?? One run by ******* vampires?
Making my first visit tomorrow. Can't wait.Per Levi, upcoming FF bottles:
Yes, upcoming bottle releases are of Meerts variants.
Peach & Pluot
Mango & Passionfruit
Cranberry
Cherry
We also have Cherry Meerts resting in an Apple Brandy barrel. Not sure if we'll bottle this or just keg it all for the taproom?
In bottles we have Moerbei - Punchdown (mulberry). This will be taproom only sometime early next year.
Frampaars and Framzwart are on fruit as well as a couple punchdown versions. To clarify, "Framzwart" is black raspberries and "Framzwartje" is black cap raspberries.
We have Cervino 2017 - Gewurztraminer fermenting right now and should be ready in a month. Sangiovese grapes are coming for a red 2017 version.
Funny you mention honey beer. While tasting through the barrels stock, we found a couple MT barrels that our immediate thought went to honey beer. So that is a real possibility and maybe soon. We will probably also do a MT3 blend this winter as well as some small batch blends of barrels we're excited about.
And we're about ready to announce our Magnum Club. It'll be offered to T100 first and then open to the public.
To clarify, "Framzwart" is black raspberries and "Framzwartje" is black cap raspberries.
According to wikipedia:Maybe I'm an idiot (and I'm sure some would say that I most certainly am), but my Google skills can't seem to differentiate between black raspberry and black cap raspberry.
Does anyone have something they can point to in order to differentiate the two?
According to wikipedia:
Rubus occidentalis is a species of Rubus native to eastern North America. Its common name black raspberry is shared with the closely related western American species Rubus leucodermis. Other names occasionally used include wild black raspberry, black caps, black cap raspberry, thimbleberry,[2][3] and scotch cap.[4]
You can purchase commercially grown black raspberries in bulk. The wild black raspberries in Framzwartje were picked by hand. Just a guess but that's probably the difference he is noting.
"Framzwartje is a very special project here at Funk Factory and may be the best beer we've ever had the chance to make. The project started when Forager Brewing told us they had managed to pick 80 lbs of wild blackcap raspberries. There is no commercial source for these berries. You literally have to forage them from the woods, and it take a lot of dedication to make up 80 lbs of these incredibly tiny berries. Our fruiting rate is 2lbs/gallon, so we hand selected a single barrel for this beer. The barrel we chose was an 18 month old Methode Lambic barrel."
I do think they taste different, but I've never had them side by side. They certainly look different.
Black Caps are allegedly more tart than commercial black berries. They are also about half the size and have the same number of seeds as the larger ones. Think of them as an "heirloom" variety of the berry.
I've got black caps in my yard, but only enough to make a pie or so. And honestly, my kids eat so much of them that I probably couldn't even do that anymore.

how many heading up for Central Waters River Run this saturday?
looks like they've pared back the guest tap list, opened up the even to the general public and Black Gold allocations are already sold out.
already reading a bit of upset about the event not being as good compared to past year's.
i, for one, hope the changes reduce the neckbeard overcrowding and subsequent outrage about..... everything.
See you all there! Will have family in tow for the first time-- doing the Falcon Fun Run and River Walk. Really hoping it's not too crowded.how many heading up for Central Waters River Run this saturday?

Trenchcoat. The run won't be crowded. I'm assuming you are aware per the email that you can't bring your kids into the beerfest?
What about golden raspberries? Asking for a friend.Yes, black cap raspberries are very different than black raspberries. If you view raspberries in a spectrum it would be fruity on one end and tannic on the other. Red raspberries are the fruitiest and least tannic. Purple raspberries have a good amount of fruitiness but have some tannic flavors as well. Black raspberries are far less fruity and carry a lot of tannins. Black-cap raspberries are black raspberries on tannin steroids. Earthy and savagely wild.
Black-cap raspberries are also not grown commercially. To get them, you have to literally forage them out of a forest.
Golden Raspberries are weird. I still haven't fermented them in beer, but I grew up eating them. They were my favorite as a kid, and we planted some at the taproom. They are very very sweet and I'd guess you'd call them fruity, but not as much as reds. No tannins at all. What about golden raspberries? Asking for a friend.
