Boys are doing well. I see one is now an aspiring chef. He planned an interesting chicken dish that we shared when we arrived. Chicken with a peanut sauce, cold noodles, and a broth. Matcha to drink. Good flavors, but I've got to work with him on presentation.

Ken, I hope you fair better than I did with the Tilt. When I first set it up, it was difficult, but it worked. Now when I really need it, not so easy to use. I hope your experience is better. If it is, please post with your results.

I guess maybe there are stilll a few bugs to be worked out.

So anybody have any cider that looks to have formed a pellicle?

Seems like my cider I forgot about got a dose of oxygen and possibly turned to vinegar...I added some additional juice today because I was going to transfer it to cherries in a few days and wanted to add some extra sugar to kick it off. As I opened it I notice some white stuff and bubbles on top of the cider. I added the juice anyway and will taste in a few days to see what I get.

Might check out the cider area here...also would it be safe to use same bucket again for a mead or is it possibly contaminated now with wild yeasties////

Ok, so I take back what I said about the Tilt. It works fine. I just got frustrated last night. All is working now. My original OG test had it at 1.055. The Tilt came in at 1.050. Current reading from the Tilt is fluctuating between 1.041 and 1.039. It will be interesting to see what I have after a week of fermentation.

Sean ever been to tired hands?

No, it's about an 1hr 45 min drive. I've been contemplating it though but to make it worth my while I would have to go on a can release day and bring back the max allotment. The problem with their can releases from what I see is they are always at 5pm. It would be a lot easier if the release was in the morning.

I made cider the one time, a 5gal batch and I wanted to add a cinnamon flavor to it so I put 5lb of red hot gummy bears in the secondary. It gave the cider a nice red hue to it. All of the color left the bears and they turned clear. Wife kept saying she wanted to try the gummy bears when we bottled it so my brother and I bottled it and tried a gummy bear. It was horrendous, tasted like the old wax candy minus the liquid inside. I didn't say anything to my wife and told her to try it so we can watch her reaction. As soon as she started chewing she ran to the garbage and spit it out. We were laughing so hard and then when she found out we tried it earlier she was hot. From that point on whenever I want her to try something I have to try it in front of her first before she will try it. As for the cider it had a nice cinnamon flavor to it and I would definetly make that again. Actually drinking a cider now fermented with US-05.

If it were me I would clean the fermenter and then sanitize it with Star San and go.

That's what I was thinking. Also I think in the next day or so I might transfer all the cider to gallon jugs with differect additives, cherries, berries and more sugar then see what happens. Hopefully it won't be doomed and hasn't turned to vinegar.

Ughh busy busy lately. I have been cleaning with oxy free versatile. It works super well. What is the tilt? I usually avoid anything that supposedly makes Brewing easier. Have been busy playing with new roku's and espresso machine.

It makes things easier in that you know what your beer temps are and when you hit your final gravity. My current beer started at 1.050 and is now 1.022 according to the Tilt. Eliminates having to take a sample and measuring it with a hydrometer.

Here's what it looks like for my current beer:

Thats pretty sweet. Good measurements. I have never measured either of those things, but have no problem starting like that! Was going to do a party girl ris so wanted to measure both first and second batch gravities.

It has its pros and cons. The biggest con is that in order for you to continually receive data, you have to have the mobil device (iPhone, iPad, Android) in range of the Tilt. If you have an device that you always leave at home, then the "con" of the Tilt goes away. I had an old iPhone that I installed their app on and just leave that at home to communicate with the Tilt and post data online. I can check the progress whenever I want now.

For someone who has never taken a measurement, checking gravities online seems a little overkill. That being said i remain as interested as anyone.

checking gravities online seems a little overkill.

True. I usually only took one at the beginning and one towards the end to ensure it was done. Now I don't have to take a sample, except at the beginning perhaps. The Tilt will let me know when it is done.

Edited.
