Isn't that taproom relatively updated? Mind you, I moved from Dallas 9 months ago so our "recent" timeframes are probably scaled differently

^Maybe you are right...I've probably only been there 3 times in the past 9 mths and just overlooked it.

Thanks for the feedback. I don't plan on changing out too much in Arlington as I'll have a car the whole time, so a 30 minute drive isn't too bad. I already had my sights on Meddlesome Moth so it's nice to know there are options near there.

IMO in terms of food, the only things that Dallas has that are unique compared to Houston are Korean, Japanese, and bbq (which is even arguable these days).

Tei An is the big one to check out. You should also look up Mesa, Trompo, maybe Boulevardier/Rapscallion.

Mesa and Trompo are great. Mesa is top notch "Fancy" Mexican and Trompo is killer tacos.

Both are also located real close to breweries, which is nice.

Trompo is right by Luck (beer themed restaurant) and Four Corners.

Mesa is right by Small Brewpub, which is criminally underrated/discussed IMO. I would highly suggest Small Brewpub both as a spot for beer and cocktails, and their new food menu (while a bit pricey) is also very good.

I'm going to be in Dallas/ Arlington this weekend. I'm not at all familiar with the area and looking for some recommendations. I guess I would like some beer but I'm more interested in food spots.

We are staying near Six Flags Friday night thru Sunday morning.

Check out Blind Butcher, if you like charcuterie and bourbon.

The wit will be the original Pierre version, but it will take time to dial it in. The IPAs aren't set in stone yet, but I would expect at least one out of the gate. More than likely the Belgian style. Most of the work is coming straight out of Europe (there is a unmentioned boon connection there). The goal is to get the turn of the century equipment working again in order to brew mixed/old world fermentations. Lutter s comment about OG wits and 'Berliners' are pretty close to the mark.

I would go to Rapscallion if you are end up down by Blind Butcher.
Smaller beer list, but better food and way more whiskeys.

My wife and I both enjoy going to LUCK when we're in Dallas for dinner.

Their beer list is all DFW area beers, which is fun if you're from out of town.

And beer ice cream. And I believe most of the food was made with beer in some way. It's not fancy and there's no whiskey (not sure they even have liquor), but it's a fun place.

Service has always been pretty spotty when I've been there.

gonna be in Plano on Sunday and Monday. Any good breweries there or stores.

Right off HW 121. Forget the exact street. Lone star beverages is also not far away and the best bottle shop in DFW. It is off Josef in Carrollton. Taps and caps is owned by the same family

Only 1 more day in Plano, what Jester King should I be on the look out for when I go to the beer store later? Also what is Texas's best IPA

If it's anything like Austin there'll be Simple Means, Fantome Del Ray, and Le Petit Prince on shelves.... maybe some others (I occasionally see a Dichotomous or Biere de Miel). The liquor store I go to also had 1.5L magnums of Super Ultramega Hyperforce on shelves, but I'm not sure how far out of town that made it.

Best IPA you'll find up in Plano? Does Yellow Rose make it up to Plano? That's the normal go-to answer for down here.

That or Cedar Creek Danosaurus (which I'm pretty sure IS on shelves there) are my favorite bottled/canned IPAs.

Too bad you can't make it down here for some dank Pinthouse Pizza hazy orange juice beer. ;)

Best Texas IPA is Yellow Rose, but may or may not be available. I am a fan of 3 Nations GPA and Community Mosiac (if fresh) and those should be available in Plano.

Not beer related, but Texas related.

Me and the wife are planning a short 2 day trip into Hill Country Wineries. Our only spots that we are 100% on are La Cruz de Comal and Jester King (obviously).

Any suggestions on other wineries to hit and/or places to stay? Planning on only staying somewhere Friday night so Tipping T is out.

Not sure how feasible it will be for you, but Lewis Wines was at Funk N Sour this year and I thought their wine offerings were really tasty. Looks like they're about 45 mins from JK, 55 mins from LCdC.. not sure if that's in your range but I'd check them out (or buy a bottle to-go from JK)

You going to Fredricksburg?

Can you report back on Altstadt Brewing? They just started shipping out beer to Fredricksburg. Big German money. Haven't heard a peep (cause Fredricksburg).

As far as wineries go... my go-to's are always Becker and Messina Hof, which are actually really close to each other on 290. Messina Hof is the king of Texas ports and I love their Blanc du Bois. The Prairie Rote at Becker is fantastic. Get a bottle of that and sit out back looking at the Hill Country. So romantical.

Blanco is a little off the direct route to Fredricksburg, but I'd suggest stopping by Real Ale. Their facility and brew team are super nice!

We are limited on time and my wife gets dragged around doing lots of beer things, so we are not going to Real Ale, though I pushed for it, though I have visited in the past.

I will add Messina Hof to our list and will try to sneak Alstadt in as well.

So far our "hit list" is
JK
La Cruz De Comal
Dry Creek Comal
Pedernales
Bending Branch
Lewis
Duchman
Messina Hof

I'd put William Chris on your list if you can. I'm no wine conosseir by any means, but I enjoyed every one of their wines. I believe they only do tasting by appointment.
