Anyone got the DL on the Whole Foods Austin BCBS event this Friday? Variants available? Limits? Because I have heard a level of info just barely above squat.

This is what I'm saying...haven't heard ****. If there are no variants or bw available it's pretty pointless to go since BCBS will be at all the usual suspects Friday as well. Did "hear" that 150 cases of BCBW are hitting Austin but we all know that could very well be false or an exaggeration. Seems if this were true more places than WF would have to get it...

Saw that Abyss was popping up in Dallas. Any word on when Austin is getting their shipment?

So I was told, from what I consider a reliable source, that we will only be getting BCBS on Black Friday, and none of the variants (apparently label issues). I've seen this hinted a few other places, but wanted to know if anyone else had heard this exact thing as well. If so, I don't need to wait at Whole Foods, since other stores will be getting the BCBS that same day as well.

Phil said variants not until next month. He seems to be pretty reliable.

I heard that the variants aren't label approved yet. It amazes me as Budweiser usually just pays to make things happen with beer in TX.

I was told by a BEK guy in Dallas that we should expect variants. This was on Monday, but he was unsure of amount, and said everyone had been very tight lipped about allotments.

Variants will most likely be December, but it wouldn't surprise me if they were on the truck with the rest of the BCBS. We better hope this is the case, since we may get a significantly less amount if they have to ship next month. Especially if other accounts re-up before hand.

Here's what I know:

Ab-InBev Shipping:
Talking to a distributor friend of mine, he mentioned the thing about AB-InBev that sucks, is that they do not give a pre-shipping manifest with their beers. Meaning that when the truck shows up to Silver Eagle, they open the door and say: "This is what we have, this is what you pay." This is the first time the distributor sees how much beer they got, could be 10 cases of BCBS, could be 1,0000. While this doesn't matter for their big sellers, because they can sell 10 cases of Bud Light or 10,000 cases, it gets frustrating for the smaller beers.

This is why Spec's and other places did not set a limit earlier, since they weren't sure what there allotment would be. I would assume that Spec's midtown will be getting ~50% of the BCBS (and eventually variants) that hit the city of Houston.

Legality:
The way I understand it legally, it is not illegal for the distributor to have product that is not label approved or "legal to sell" in their warehouse, waiting for when it is legal to sell. On the other hand, it is illegal for Spec's or other places to have "illegal" beer in their inventory on site, since they are the final gatekeeper between product and public.

Lobbying:
I have close friends that work in the Texas Lobby, and used to work in that field myself, and we always make jokes about AB-InBev and their pockets. It would literally disgust you to see what they (and other distributors of booze/cigarettes) spend on lobbying efforts. So while it wouldn't be a shock per see to see the labels get approved very soon, I realistically don't expect it to happen in time for the Black Friday release.

Sorry for the long post!

TL;DR: Distributing, Legality, and Sweet Sweet Black Tar Heroine.

If I'm wrong feel free to blame me. It's the best game.

BCBCS is label approved plus the fact that someone put the effort into bringing the Intellegentsia beans for the Whole Foods release makes me think at a minimum there will be BCBS and BCBCS in Austin.

If they have the coffee your probably right, it will make an appearance, but BCBCS is label approved for 22oz Bombers and Kegs only... I would bet that Whole Foods would have it on draft or would be pouring samples out of bombers.

I'm certain that a major chain like they would not be doing the 12oz bottles without it being legal. They have way to much to lose as a large corporation.

Jesus you're right :(

I hope you're happy. Today you broke a Sloth's heart.

Can someone let me know why we wouldn't have the whole spectrum (minus Coconut) at WF Austin? Its one of their 4 release locations, they are having the Inteligencia Beans.....

Also, anyone know what time they'll be rolling in? Since doors open at 7, was thinking maybe 5 or 6....

Barleywine, Coffee, and Backyard Rye don't have TABC label approval yet.

Wow. That sucks. So one of the 4 places that GI is hyping as "base" for its release won't even have any variants. Weak sauce. Totally rethinking waking up early.

I MAY have a line on some more BCBS in Houston. DanzBorin and rainer keep it to yourselves because they may or may not be out of stock. I am expecting a call back on Monday/Tuesday to see if they can transfer some over from their warehouse to their storefront. If I get confirmation, I'll release the name of the store to everyone and let the free for all commence.

IF you missed out totally on BCBS in Houston, PM me. I will toss you a bottle for free, but you have to arrange pick-up.

Cheers,

Business Sloth
