Anyone ever get a final word on Backyard Rye in LI? Is it only hitting the few places it popped up in the city? My local guy says he has gotten no definitive info from his rep.
I heard there's none coming to the island

Trust me, if I knew I would share, anxiously awaiting it to hit LI or more places in NYC to get it...

Yeah, obviously its not the first time there are confusing issues with a GI release, but I really dont understand the city roll out of Backyard Rye at all. It was like they sent 98% of the NY allocation to Top Hops and then threw darts at a board to decide on the rest. C-Town? Some random place in Staten Island? Really?

I didn't even hear that a C-Town got it actually, just TH, M&M and that place in Staten Island, this is a very odd release for sure.

I just looked back through my BeerMenus alerts, it wasn't a C-Town, it was a Foodtown in Yonkers.....kind of the same though

It is less than 3 weeks to the date that Southampton would normally have the RIS release party. I guess this isnt happening again this year? Or will it just be a last minute dinner thing and not a bottle release party?

Any further info on this? I'm hoping to make it this year if a release happens.

not really. I even asked on facebook and got the cold shoulder

i really dont think they even know whats up. When Phil was at the helm, slim details were released months in advance but at least it was made known for planning purposes. Only once it came down to the wire were finite details about bottles, quantity and pricing were released.

Of course the 7th is my roommate's birthday. Zero idea how I'm going to be able to be in any sort of shape to go out for it

so y'all gonna be at Great South Bay this thursday for the release of their Russian Imperial Stout? I had a taste of it before carbonation and it was pretty great. Also tasted something else that the brewery is working on that locals should get VERY excited about.

if you'll be there let me know...as of now, my plan is to be there at 3p but can't stay into the evening, but will be hanging for at least an hour or 2 if anyone wants to meet up.

Southampton Publick House 2014 Release Party
Saturday February 8th, 2013
Doors Open at 11:00am

In an effort to not have people stand outside in the cold for hours on end, Southampton Publick House will once again hand out numbered, order sheets with our current offerings for the day. These sheets will be available at the front of the brewery at 9:00am and we ask that people pick them up as soon as they are made available. Additionally, we ask that everyone line up, in numbered order, prior to the brewery opening up at 11:00am.

SPH will do its best to gauge appropriate bottle limits; and using the popularity of this event in years past, we came up with the following limits. Please be aware, these limits are subject to change.

Beer Descriptions:

* Southampton Russian Imperial Stout 2014
750ml - $16/bottle, 550 bottles, limit 3 per customer
On Tap All Day

Southampton Russian Imperial Stout is a strong version of English Stout, which was called “Imperial” because this type of special brew was exported to the Czar’s court in imperial Russia by the British in the 1800’s. This pitch black beer is brewed with 8 different malts to give it great complexity of flavor.
10.5% Alcohol by volume

* Southampton Scotch Ale 2014
750ml - $16/bottle, 550 bottles, limit 3 per customer
On Tap All Day

Southampton Scotch Ale is an authentic version of the classic full bodied Scottish Wee Heavy that is brewed for export. Brewed with traditional Scottish “Golden Promise” malt to deliver the biscuity, slight vanilla character and balanced with imported UK hops.
8.4% Alcohol by volume

* Southampton Double Ice Bock 2014
7oz - $15/bottle, 140 bottles, limit 1 per customer

Southampton Double Ice Bock is based off of a traditional German-style Bock beer. This German lager beer is rich and malty and brewed to an alcohol strength of 6-7%. “Ice Bock” is produced when a Bock beer is partially frozen in order to increase it’s alcohol content. In this process, some of the water content turns to ice, effectively strengthening the flavor and alcohol of the beer. We take this process one step further. After the initial freezing, the beer is decanted off the ice and frozen a second time. The resulting beer is a deceptively smooth and amazingly strong lager.
18% Alcohol by volume

We will have Saison Deluxe and Grand Cru from 2012 available and fresh Abbot 12 from 2014.

Astoria Beer and Cheese got a case of Backyard a couple of weeks ago. Other than that I don't know of any other places in Queens that got it. Weird..

damn, wish i would've checked the site before heading out. if it all sells out before i can get back to the brewery...i got ya on dirty deeds and devil's deeds (the black sour made from the run off and lacto from dirty deeds). dirty deeds was phenomenal on draft today...haven't cracked a bottle yet. supposedly will be hitting growler stations and bars around town and i plan to drink as much of it as i can.

i was fortunate enough to get a taste of devil's deeds from the tank about a week ago and was floored by how good it was as well. let me know and i'll keep you posted when i can get there again next (might be tomorrow...but more realistically around 2 weeks since i'm out of town next week).

edit - if you make it out in 2 weeks and bottles are still around, let me know...i'd meet ya there and buy ya a pint and pop a bottle or two with ya.

If you feel like stopping off in Brooklyn on the way, I may be able to join you for the ride out from that point.
