Tyrsis, what dark rum would you recommend for a Dark and Stormy. I picked up some Appleton on your recommendation and love it for a rum punch (.75oz lime juice, 1.5oz simple syrup, 1oz dry curacao, and 2oz appleton), but want something a little more pungent for a dark and stormy to go with my Honey Ginger Lime soda.

Honestly, not sure. Not a drink I ever make tbh

Damn, I love dark and stormy, but since I don't know rum I have used cheap **** (Mount Gay, Kraken). I typically find it a good wedding drink when the bar stash is not that great.

Come over, try the soda, and a D&S with appleton and let me know thoughts.

Despite being "cheap ****," I think Mount Gay is pretty legit stuff.

For Dark and Stormys, isn't the rum of choice Gosling Black Seal? I'm a cheapass myself, but I've made Dark and Stormy's with that, Myer's, and Cruzan Blackstrap, and it's been good stuff. I almost feel like a cocktail like that is asking for something cheaper.

I would try the Cruzan actually - and then go buy some Falernum and make Corn N Oils too. That is one of my favorite rum-based cocktails, bar-none. I've actually made falernum too, and it's easy and mad tasty.

Just deconstructed a pineapple. I’ll be making pineapple Tiki drinks tonight

Also I can’t make it to Residents Anniv Party but I’ll be heading to Port for lunch and some Bacon and Eggs Cans!
Aren't B&E cans next week?

You guys are making me want to make falernum again. Y'all are some crazy enablers.

Beer festival with no water stations on a pier with no railings. Bold strategy.

Beautiful location, but that was pretty stupid to have no water & no railing. Also felt like I was in a wind tunnel the whole time. By the way, isn’t loads of caffeine & alcohol also a bad idea (remembering the 4 Loko deaths)?

I think the amount of caffeine that would make it into the beer is pretty small. But I have no data to back that up.

Seriously MT?!? Zero water stations at a multi-hour beer fest??
I feel like 90% of beer festivals fail to have enough water and bathrooms.
In regards to the lack of water stations, that was a venue issue, not a Modern Times decision. Derek (MT's event head honcho for those who may not know him) told a group of us that the venue nixed water stations due to incredibly strict rules about runoff entering the bay. Obviously, I don't know exactly when Modern Times found out about that, but Derek wasn't stoked about it and it seemed like it wasn't something they knew about with enough advance warning to address. It definitely was a bummer, especially with most of the beers being high octane, but it also wasn't a situation where they ignored the need.
