Hot take

‘18 Roustabout > ‘18 PtY

(Just had both today)

Discuss....
Posting a pic drinking PtY to social media (for viewing by out of town beer buds) > pic drinking Roustabout

Though seriously, I appreciate the report. All this reminds me of some past years when I felt Expo was better than Younger and the reception that opinion received.

Maybe a report from the Toro crowd last night is forthcoming? mlevy, pugsnsuds, I'm talking to you!

Drinking Roustabout is way more fun than Younger. Younger is what the kids who love to IG drink now.

Wait a minute...I drink my yearly pint of Younger (although note yet) and have yet to even post on IG..despite having an account for almost a year.

It’s pretty effing tasty, was fortunate to get to try some yesterday. Ready to get a little irresponsibly inebriated on Saturday.
Going to attempt a stop at Resident on my walk home from Caffeination... I'm sure that'll work out well.

Skipped out on the 2PM tapping at Neighborhood yesterday of PtY, but had Roustabout the day before there and it was light years better than the Abnormal IIIPA.

I don't pay as close attention to Resident as I should - are they doing online sales for the BA porter or is it in person only at their anniversary party on Saturday?

Opening a couple of Sante beers that I won in KevSal ’s LIF at toro tonight if anyone is around feel free to join. Also the steak special looks delicious.

I’m pretty sure it’s in person only. Ari and I will be there plenty early, so if you can’t make it and want a bottle or two, just holler!

I honestly thought you didn’t like hoppy beers and was 70% Speedway Insert Variant and 30% water

Hahahaha, while that is mostly true I tend to drink whatever is put in front of me...minus red ales (such as My Blood Valentine and the like). Yesterday after my medical tests were done I went right over to Regents Pizza (been ages since I have been inside) and grabbed a Pupil and a 2x4 to drink with the garlic knots I had. Good good stuff.

i don't know much about Horus/Kyle (other than a recent podcast interview from DannyFullpint ), but i find everything about this fascinating... from the 55 collaborations in '17 to his enormous social media presence (evidenced by selling out his first(?) bottle release in 2 seconds)... he is already being hailed as a legend even though he doesn't produce his own beer.

seems like he cracked the code in a very short time by combining the gypsy brewer approach (brewing with some of the biggest names in the country) with the blending/aging only approach for his own facility in Oceanside. even if he's paying for all the materials for all the collaborations (?), it seems like he's getting much more mileage out of that than having to invest much more money into a traditional brewhouse.

and he's doing all this while still working his full-time job (accountant for aerospace company).

and everyone seems to know/love him (hence the unending list of collaborators).

i have to assume he has a genius/savant level of organization/planning to keep all this going...

Seriously, it's quite ******* mind blowing. He seems to have figured out the golden key to all this hype.

What’s to crack?

1. Collab with well established brewers who use same hype generating formula
2. Relentless social media campaign
3. Hype ingredients “Japanese Chocolate,” “Peruvian Coffee,” etc incessantly
4. Have ultra-limited bottle count to create excessive demand vs availability, allow one proxy to essentially proxy for dozens of people, set per person limit to 6 to ensure instantaneous sell out to create further social media buzz
5. Plead ignorance that you didn’t know that unlimited proxies at a 6 bottle per person limit would result in an instant sell out

Very easy formula. Easy to figure out, harder to execute, so kudos to him on being able to pull it off.

Yeah figuring it out isn't the hard part, pulling it off successfully is where the golden key lays. All while having a full time job. It's seriously amazing.

It will be interesting to see where the dust settles though, hype can only go so far.

I think it’s a cool approach. The hype is a bit much, but good for him.

I did manage to secure a bottle because I was curious. I did see that the drop down went to 6 and I figured that was a mistake and my order would have been cancelled/refunded, so I only decided to go for a single bottle.
