Ugh, i keep getting them mixed up with Pure Project. So whenever I hear them I think "oh the guys with the stupidly hyped up mediocre hazy IPAs?" and ignore them.

Of the artifex beers I keep deciding to have at places like Bruski's and Board & Brew, they might as well be called Pure Project, because I can't call their stuff beer....it would be insulting to actual beer.

Churchill's has a dedicated Artifex handle and it's typically been a great IPA (not haze)--No Name IPA, Sober in the Morning, and Trigger Finger are the ones that come to mind immediately. I've been thoroughly impressed with Artifex's beers pretty much across the board. They make a great imperial stout (HoliDave 9.7%) and a tasty berliner (Unicorn Juice), as well.

Different strokes, I suppose, but they're anything but an adjunct or haze factory.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

agreed on Aritfex, No Name IPA is excellent.... i think the brewers are good friends with the Burgeon guys.

anyone had the Mastodon beer from Mikkeller? worth a trip? sdreaper

Had it a few weeks ago. I quite enjoyed it. I didn't think that the cardamom would work well with the beer but I was pleasantly surprised. I was unable to pick out the dates but I figured that flavor blended with the usual dark fruit flavor of bourbon barrels. Pistachios took a while to pop out, had to warm a bit but it was just a nice flavor, not over-powering or nutty like BL's Baklava thing they made. Coffee was nice, not over-roasted, not burnt.

Price point seems a bit high, grabbed 4 bottles yesterday and dropped about $80 even after viking discount. If you are in the area, it is on draft so I think it is worth a shot trying before you buy. A few friends that I thought would enjoy it ended up being turned off by a flavor they couldn't get over.

I will provide an opposing opinion. I thought Sultan's Curse was disgusting. Barely drinkable. Two things worth noting, I suppose, was that it was only a taster and I don't really like dates/cardemom anyway. This is one you absolutely have to try first, IMO. I liked the glassware with the release, so I got one of those.

I liked Murky's Law quite a bit though (IPA with prickly pear). Had so much fruit flavor that I'd think it was a tart berlinerweiss blind.

Lost Abbey selling 360 bottles, 4pp probably at around $50 per bottle on Oct 28 10am as a first-come, first serve sale.
