I get that I'm not the target demo, but even if I were, absolutely nothing about this sounds exciting, unique, or original in any way.

God I wish I could get excited about local beer again.

This must be why famous people get in to cocaine. You reach the top and everything is boring from then on. So much crazy stuff here all the time that it seems pretty tough to get tired of any of it, but maybe my family is spread out among so many beer wastelands that annual visits make it very easy to appreciate our embarrassment of riches here in San Diego.

For example - should you so choose, you have the option tomorrow of grabbing great pizza, great beer, and hanging out at a great beach all day. That alone is exciting to me.

Mostra 5th was quite fun. I am glad they started getting through the line 30 minutes before they started pouring beer since it took that long to get all the VIP in just because all the merch was handed to you right at the front.

A few lines, specifically for Bake Kujira, but otherwise maybe 5 minutes of a wait which was just enough time to finish the 3oz pour of whatever I ended up having in my glass. Mostra Assassin was just hiding in a back room, 0 line, so that was a nice surprise to start off the event.

I think Assassin, Bake Kujira, and 1 other beer kicked during the VIP hour, everything else made it to GA. I felt bad for one DoubleTree employee as she was standing at the table with Trillium Affogato bottles and no line. Quite funny that Affogato just...sat there.

DoubleTree did very well serving as well as constantly making food available, so a nice 180 from what was experienced at Urge last year. There were, at most, 2 beers per station spread all around the back area. The actual bar itself had 6 offerings, but 4 bartenders, so basically no wait time.

I was skeptical about the whole thing as I was standing in line and noticed how slow ppl were being let in, but once inside that feeling was quickly resolved. Nice fest. Mostra killed it again.

Probably too late, but Gravity Heights is solid. Food wise, if you enjoy all that Whisknladle and co have to offer, you'll have a good time. The tuna crudo is fantastic, the szechuan wings are freaking bomb, and the pear and panchetta pizza is incredible.

Beerwise, solid all around - more or less everything good you'd expect from Skip. Standouts were the Brewers Best Bitter, perfectly balanced, and the SMS Pale, with a body and crispness that really reminded me of fresh Ponto and Pupil. The Overhead DIPA gave me some nice fuzzy OG Duet feels as well.

All in all, great new brewery restaurant right in the heart of Qualcomm country. It's clear they're trying to create a direct competitor to Karl Strauss in that location, and they're definitely going to succeed in that regard. With how busy Karl's gets at lunchtime, theyre def bound to be successful. We would definitely go back, and since I work around that area, illI certainly be suggesting it as a happy hour spot to my coworkers.
