Opened up this one this weekend after drinking all afternoon, and this was tastier than I remember. August 15 dating on the bottle.

Bready / cracker light malt character, touch of oxidation, phenolic yeast profile that jumps out with black pepper, not quite as bright as it was fresh but I'm still looking forward to that last bottle I have lingering.

Farewell Pretty Things...

This totally lived up to the hype for me. Had the most incredible mouthfeel I've ever head in a Saison. Similar to HF but even on another level higher I think. Great balance of tartness, funk, clean Saison flavor and a touch of citrus.

Keep forgetting to post!

Saint Somewhere Traditionnel. From what I've gathered these guys can be hit and miss but this BdG was definitely spot on. Had that nice soft, sweet BdG maltyness with a mild yeast character. A little bit of a "wild" touch too. Recommended.

Deux Amis was way solid but mostly because it's the freshest Saison Dupont I've ever had. Hoppier than the regular with a more piney edge, but I mainly enjoyed it for the vibrant Dupont yeast character. It seemed to shine here more than in regular, dusty bottles I usually seem to find.

Most recent batch of Train to Mars from Thiriez and Get Radical. About what you'd expect from a Thiriez beer, very dry with a hoppy bitterness. Nose however has an oniony hop skunk to it with a fruity finish from the Mosaic hops. Very drinkable and pairs very well with Chinese food.

Have you had Mars Needs Women? The barrel aged version of that beer. Super funky

I haven't! Though I would definitely be down for trying it. I didn't even know Thiriez did barrel aging until recently. I guess they also due a Jean Chris beer that's wine BA with Cantillon lambic. Way ISO.

Never seen that one around, although they're coming to a beer festival here soon so I hope they'll bring their A-game.
They also barrel age their DIPA Dalva for three years. Turns pretty tart and funky.

Sounds way legit! There's a BA DIPA from Trois Dames at my local shop that I've been meaning to try. Prob tasting like a funky hoppy saison at this point.

The keg of 2015 Fantome d'été at fofa yesterday was pretty spectacular.

it really was. had one early and had to go back towards the end of the fest. such unique flavor compared to the rest of the great offerings there

Shameless plug for my good friend Thorpe429. He will be opening a brewery soon in the west Chicago suburbs (Lombard to be exact) that will focus on saisons. Afterthought Brewing Company, formally Ambrosia Ales if you follow him on Untappd. If you've had the pleasure of enjoying his homebrew you know the man has talent and it isn't just some hobby for him. I've seen the hard work and preparation he's done for this and I couldn't be more excited.

Head over to the Facebook page and help spread the word (link here).

If you don't have Facebook then just tell your friends. Website will be coming soon.

Congrats Thorpe429!

Pretty Things East Kent Saison

A slightly weird offering as I'm not used to the combination of saison yeast and aggressive English style hop character, clove phenolics and a peach / light stonefruit ester profile in the yeast character, dry and effervescent, moderate to higher bitterness.

Not my favorite Pretty Things Offering (Field Mouse Farewell), but still a solid beer and I'll continue to enjoy them while I can find them on the shelves.
