Most likely Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday afternoon while we're out wandering around. Didn't book a place yet. Was going to Priceline something at the last minute. the wife wants to stay in Williamsburg or Greenpoint if we can.

First off, Airbnb is gonna be a lot cheaper. Might not be as convenient with a 2 year old but definitely worth looking into.
On a Monday or Tuesday afternoon, most places are probably gonna be ok. Sunday might be tough just because you expect a bigger crowd.

So Greenpoint/wburg options: Brouwerij Lane, Torst, Spuyten Duyvil, Barcade (arcade games for the kids). Then brewery wise you got Greenpoint Beer and Ale, Interboro and Grimm.
Long Island City is only a stop or 2 on the G and there’s a few breweries there as well.

If you end up in a different hood, options are expanded/different.

Just throwing this here so I don't have to text a bunch of you (though I may, anyway):

The venerable Compton25 is coming to town tomorrow. If anyone's interested in meeting up, we'll be around!

Additionally, if anyone knows of anything happening that doesn't involve us going to Other Half, let me know! All I can think of right now is bothering jammery at Hops Hill, but I said I wanted to do fun things... ;)

Here's some ideas I have:
  • Threes
  • Not Anywhere in Williamsburg, Greenpoint, LIC, Bushwick, etc.
  • Threes
  • Not Other Half
  • Threes
  • Threes?
  • ...
  • Threes.

Ha, agreed. You have a nice number of breweries in the Gowanus/Park Slope/Sunset Area that you can easily hit, including Other Half, Folksbier, Three's, Five Boroughs, Strong Rope.

I have a 4 year I drag around with me to bars and breweries all the time. Places with outside space tend to work best I guess. Spuyten Duyvil or Threes should be ideal but not on a Sunday. Interboro always seem to be fine with kids. Assuming the two year old isn't a runner you could attempt Other Half or Grimm on the Monday and Tuesday but there are brewing spaces they can run into which is always a buzz kill if you have to go chasing after them.

So i am stuck in Fort Lee NJ and have been looking for a decent bar. I found one that isn't too far away in Harlem, at 134th & 7th... I was planning on going, but a co-worker warned me againts it and said it was a rough neighborhood. Everything i hear is that most of Manhatten is pretty safe, so is that the case for this neighborhood? Or should i avoid? The bar is Harlem Hops - so any feedback on that place is appreceiated too.

Also accepting recommendations for the Fort Lee area... though so far it seem very lame.

It’s not the best neighborhood, but it has changed a lot recently. I’d go for it.

changed for the better? Just trying to make sure you're not sending me into a war zone blind!

I used to live in Harlem (albeit a slightly nicer part 20 blocks south), and it's totally fine. I actually almost moved to 132nd and 7th but backed out due to the owner leasing the apt. being unreasonable. You are much more likely to fall victim to a crime in Times Square/Midtown than anywhere in Harlem.

Cool - appreciate the feedback. that was my original feeling till a local cautioned me.

Yes.

Don't be put off just because it's not swarming with annoying tourists. ;)

Also if you're in Fort Lee, you need to go out and get Korean food.

I noticed there is a ton of it. Any particular spot you recommend? Need to grab food before heading to Harlem - the place only serves apps and small bites.

I think it depends what you like.

So Kong Dong and BCD Tofu House are good. The former only serves soondubu (tofu/seafood stew) and kalbi.
Bonchon and Boom Boom specialize in Korean fried chicken.
There's a food court in the H-Mart and they also have takeaway foods.

I'll be in NYC late August 10th through evening August 12th. Staying at 32nd and 2nd and going to a birthday party saturday evening in bushwick.

Looking for any recommendations on newer bars and breweries in the last couple years. I always have a good time at gingerman. Probably going to hit grimm and interboro. Does grimm do flights / tasters?

Thanks.
