Not beer-related, but we're mostly a bunch of dorks on here, and I know for sure at least few of you are alt-comedy/improv fans, so I had a quick question.

Has anybody ever attended shows for the Del Close Marathon? I completely forgot it was happening this weekend, and there's a few shows tonight that I'm interested in maybe seeing at the UCB Theatre in Hell's Kitchen. It's $45 for the weekend pass, which gets you into most of the shows. I'm busy the rest of the weekend, but I'd be totally happy to just get in tonight.

So my question--is this thing typically a shitshow?

Like, do I need to line up way ahead of time if I want to see a show with a handful of notable comedians, or could I probably just show up 15 minutes before it starts and still get in?

Don't know if you went or not but you usually need to be standing in line hours prior to a bigger show

It says on the website that they open 2 hours before the start of a day game, and stay open 2 hours after, but normal hours for Saturdays are 12-12. So if theres a game at 4PM, do they still open at 12, or do they open at 1 or 2 or something? I want to finally check this place out this weekend, but I'm not planning to go to the game, so I was hoping to be there at open to avoid any possible (holidayish) weekend pregame shitshow.

Also, has anybody been to Grimm's spot yet? Based on what I can gather from social media, the tasting room looks really nice, and it actually seems like they're doing pretty well out of the gate in terms of handling crowds.

Yes, it's nice. See above.

Opening day was a minor balls up from what I've heard. Pals showed up at opening and bailed after 90mins due to lack of progress/the heat. Two times I've been there since then have been absolutely fine.

Let's be real here. They missed the boat by at least 18 months in terms of the hand cart mafia.

If I'm not mistaken, the Saturday hours are 12-12 regardless. And I think the early game day hours are just for the weekdays when they'd generally open at 4.

And you should definitely go regardless, because it's a great spot.

The 2 hours before or after only comes into effect if it extends the regular hours. Or on a Monday or Tuesday when the brewery is normally closed.

And they are opening even earlier for the World Cup. So they’ll be open at 10am on Saturday.

I drank beer at the following places yesterday.

Mikkeller NYC - Awesome spot. I prioritized drinking stuff brewed there over any of the non-Mikkeller stuff, or stuff brewed elsewhere by Mikkeller, and ****, it was all really good. People Power, Say Hey Sally, and Beer Geek Parlor were especially enjoyable. I don't love the lack of smaller or half-sized pours, but I still totally understand why they don't do them, especially on game days. Maybe when things slow down a bit in the off-season they'll bring them back temporarily. I also had a Pat LaFrieda hot dog that was super good, and some fried pickles that were fine. And perhaps best of all, I bumped in kep.

Grimm - I arrived late enough to avoid any can-release related shitshow, which was great. Its a really nice space. I think everybody has had enough of their beer to know what to expect, but I definitely enjoyed what I had. I didn't eat there, but the stuff Samesa had on their menu sounded very good, and I look forward to trying it on a subsequent visit.

I also went to Interboro, because it is literally only a 4-minute walk from Grimm, and it was lovely as always. They've really expanded the spirits and cocktails side of the menu since the last time I was there, which is nice.

Sounds like there's a million great bars with unbelievable tap lists, but which would be the most friendly to a family of five with kids aged 2, 9, and 12? Most likely Sunday, Monday, or Tuesday afternoon while we're out wandering around. Didn't book a place yet. Was going to Priceline something at the last minute. the wife wants to stay in Williamsburg or Greenpoint if we can.
