Painless process. Nicely done MT!

Also, there is a public hearing about the Encinitas location tonight at 6pm in front of the Encinitas Planning Commission. I recommend attending if you are able to do so. I'll probably be up in the area around 4:30 or so, likely sitting at the bar at EAH having a blind pig and a burger.

With the League welcome party this weekend and some people coming from out of town, as well as an influx of new members, I figured a few tips might help people maximize their experience. Most of these are centered on San Diego, although the final two points apply to all locations:

1) The San Diego Gulls have home games at the Valley View Casino Center on both Friday and Saturday nights at 7PM, the effects of which are two-fold. First, street parking in the area will be far harder to come by, especially on Friday evening - the Gulls are handing out a bobblehead so it will draw an even bigger crowd than usual. Second, the tasting room is generally packed on game nights, with the crowd beginning to build around 5 PM and peaking from 5:30 to 7 PM, frequently resulting in a capacity crowd and a one out/one in policy. If you're in town for the weekend and want to visit on Friday evening, I'd highly recommend waiting until around 7:30. You'll have a solid two hours until the post-game crowd begins to come in. Likewise on Saturday, with extra members around, the tasting room will probably be packed all day. As far as parking, take Uber or Lyft if you can, it's a high-traffic area so you won't have any trouble getting a car.

2) The merch booth at the brewery has a pretty rad selection of bottles to go right now. If you're a new member, I'd highly recommend taking a look, as there are some beers from 2017 that I'm sort of surprised are still available. Monsters' Park in Quadruple Flowers barrels is a winner on the stout side and there is an array of choices on the wild ales side, from lovely Brett beers to excellent stone fruit sours. If you make it in while the cafe is open, having a slushie is pretty much essential, and the seasonal Invincible Sun God espresso blend is delicious (assuming they're still pulling shots with it).

3) If you haven't had Wizard Blend 2017, use at least one of your tasters at the welcome party on it. It's a phenomenal blend and something everyone should try.

4) With a ton of League/ToLC members gathering on the same day, the tasting room will almost certainly be busier than usual - be patient and know that there's plenty of awesome beer to go around. Everyone at Modern Times has been busting their asses to get LA and Portland open, prep for the 2018 League and ToLC, and continue brewing amazing beer for us to enjoy. Whichever location you're at and whatever MT team members you see, make sure you're distributing high fives like they're going out of style.

If you've got any questions about visiting, food nearby, or anything else that's not specific to your account/orders, post them up so we can throw out suggestions and advice. As usual though, if your question is about your account/orders, your best bet is to email [email protected] so Steven can help you out directly.

ModernTimesSteven could you give us a heads up if Modem Tones limits will go up and the e-mail eta? Being overseas currently is not making this easy! Sure hope Tones is still on tap on the 27th after I land.

Have fun at the welcome party folks.

Great advice! Sometimes the crowd the die down enough before the game to pop in for a quick pint but like you said it will probably be crazier Friday night with $2 Bud Light and the bobblehead giveaway. Always amusing to see those brewers and homebrewers pounding the cheap swill during the game.

The Planning Commission meeting went well last night. They voted 5-0 in favor of MT. There was only one person that was there in opposition and she started her time with mentioning that it isn't really against Modern Times but more the lack of parking for that business area. Granted she was quietly commenting while David (MT's counsel) talked as well as when the sheriff was talking....I think she just realized she was heavily out numbered and didn't want to be too negative.

This is a step up since the last time MT was in front of the planning commission it was a 3-2 in favor and that was only after our comments managed to sway a vote.

I do think there was something added to the project that will require MT to report annually about food vs. beer sales, but the commission was so wishy washy on that part that I am not 100% certain.

Wish I could have gone but MrsBenzo had a work diner to attend... can’t wait for that place to open!

My plan is to go on a friday, stay until close, grab a burrito to kill some time, and hope that La Paloma still does occasional friday night Rocky Horror showings.

First questions for Lord Xul (that isn't about my technical incompetence)

Nearest fish tacos to 3725 Greenwood St. that you could recommend?
Did I read/comprehend correctly that our 1 included bottle of Modem Tones will be available for pick up at the Welcome Party?
Any chance there's a place to store a bag for an hour or so during the welcome party for those of us not coming via our own cars?

What part of town are you staying in? The best/closest to Modern Times would probably be South Beach Bar & Grille in Ocean Beach, roughly a 10 minute Uber ride from MT (and then just a few blocks to Pizza Port for post-taco refreshments). However, there may be a better option that would be on your way to/from Modern Times, depending on where you're staying.

Yeah, we are getting that one included bottle at the party. No place I'd really recommend leaving a bag, your best bet would be to ask someone who's driving and attending the same session as you if you can stick it in their car during the party. I'd offer but I'm Ubering.

Thanks for the reply.
I was looking for tacos close to MT specifically. Just because of scheduling. I m sure i'll wander all around the city in a Lyft.
I'm seriously considering OBrien's now if i can get there before it gets too crowded...though I've still not been to lots of places and I'm scared to look at the Toronado and Hamilton's taplists

Gotcha. There's really no excellent fish tacos in the immediate area (like walkable) of Modern Times, your best bet is to tie it into going someplace else. If you head to Hamilton's, the truck in the Target Express parking lot on Grape St is killer. If you go out to Pizza Port OB, South Beach Bar & Grille. If you head downtown at all, there's an Oscar's location.

Which session are you hitting tomorrow?
