Officially got laid off yesterday, so I can now start drinking stouts and posting vinyl before noon. Still not sure what my true feelings are on this beer, but at this point grabbing a few every winter is hardwired into me. Record slays though.

liked for beer, unliked for job loss. sorrry man. while I don't wish the 'daily grind' on people (as kbuzz put it) a source of steady income is always needed. good luck, man!

That's ******. These days I try my best to get there for the opener and give each band a shot. I've "discovered" several bands that way and sometimes they're even better than whatever I went to see. Other times they are an arrogant ****** on a unicycle or a kindergarten teacher singing about sharing or some **** but...whatever, they at least deserve a chance. Except unicycle guy, **** that dude.

I also like to check out openers. I saw Grouper open for Animal Collective years ago. Was probably the worst opening experience of all time. First off, I **** with Grouper's music. However, two things were really terrible:

1) She literally just looked down at her pedals and guitar while sitting in a chair. This was not shoegaze-y, it was just terrible. There was an absolute lack of engagement with the audience and no attempt to give a ****. Not really badass, just off-putting and awkward.

2) This was the summer after Merriweather Post Pavilion came out and they had blown up. So many 18-22 year old douches and wanna-be hipsters who had just come for "Summertime Clothes." They just straight up talked through Grouper's set.

I was at that show! 930 club?

Grouper sucked ass. And she played for what felt like an eternity.

I had to leave part way through Banshee Beat, which was really disappointing for me. ******* Metro...

On many occasion, I have gone to a show strictly to see the opener. I stay for the headliner's act as a courtesy, but inevitably leave half way through...

WEW opening for Clutch
Dax Riggs opening for QOTSA
Pixies opening for Weezer (actually ended up staying for most of Weezer set cause they played a lot more old **** than I thought they would)

Like 10 years ago, Anthony Keidis put on that New American Music Festival or whatever it was called. In Pittsburgh, they had Spoon, Gnarls Barkley, Raconteurs, then Bob Dylan.

Dylan following those three was the most anti-climactic thing ever. I am a big Dylan nerd. But I couldn't stay through that. I peaced out and beat traffic. I felt bad disrespecting Dylan, but I saw him the prior year and that was enough for me...

I was there...same feels. Love Dylan, was cool to check off the bucket list, but man was he depressing to watch. Stayed for the whole thing, but yeah...same feels.

(you forgot to mention Black Keys too)

Black Keys were Friday night I think. I only went Saturday. I loved that era Black Keys too, so not sure why I didn't hit that up.

I lived in the South Side then and got in free through the job I had at the time...so yeah, I basically lived in that ******* parking lot that whole weekend.

We opened for a ton of great bands. Good Riddance , Strike Anywhere, Brand New, ******* Fall Out Boy. Even bands we had no similarities to, Scientific, Social Scare, etc.

This was the only time that happened AND we didnt meet a single member of the band.

I was in Boston at the time, so it was House of Blues in Boston. AC put on a pretty good show, especially with all of the clownbabies in the audience jumping around and pushing and ****.

Sun Ra Crystal Spears w/ Decadent Pacific Punch
Nice combo for the end of a long week. This record is seeing proper release from Modern Harmonic on Black Record Store Day on color wax and I do believe I'm gonna need a copy of that as well :D It's insane that this was a 'lost record' but then everything about Ra seems unbelievable. House to myself on a Friday will hopefully lead to a few postings tonight.

****, they can dirtwolf now??

More Ty Segall related **** from me. This is a modern psyched out version of maybe the Stones/Iggy/CCR?? Somewhere around there. On Ty’s “God?” label for the connection. AXIS:SOVA “Motor Earth”

Beer is Newgrass Fiddler’s Nightmare. It’s pretty butt.

Preach. Saw these guys open for Modest Mouse last week and loved it. Australian experimental garage rock band, plus they're called Tropical Fuckstorm. Had to grab their album.

Likely last for the night, another 2018 release. I only really know these guys from a Smashing Pumpkins cover they did many years ago, but my wife is a huge fan and there are one or two people on these boards that speak highly of them so I figure it's time to give them a good listen.

What label is this on? That might help me recommend something similar (or even just check it out if you’re digging it) cause I’m not sure what I’m looking at. Did you know about it when you picked it up or was it an employee rec or something? I love weird ass hip hop.

EDIT: googled. My recommendations are Sole, Prefuse 73, Young Fathers, Beans/Anti-Pop Consortium...Anticon and Warp Records stuff.

Also...thanks for posting that, I’m digging.

I'd hear the name from a friend that loves the Anticon stuff. I don't know much about the label but I like discovering all the unique hip-hop they've released. I've only heard of a few of those recommendations kbuzz so I will check out the rest, cheers!
