I recently made a Citra Single Hop IPA that I found on BrewToad. It came out incredible!.

Check out this funny head-to-head tasting video from a buddy of mine. I gave a him a sample to try and he opened it along side his first-ever Summit Pale Ale. Wasn't even close! :mug:

Recipe is:

Fermentables
  • 6lb Pilsen Light DME (boil)
  • 2lb Golden Light DME (boil)
  • 1lb Caramel Malt 20L (steep)
  • .5lb Caramel Munich 60L
  • .5lb White Wheat

Hops
  • 1oz Citra - 60min
  • 1oz Citra - 10min
  • 2oz Citra - 5 min
  • 2oz Citra 0 min
  • 4oz Citra (dry hop for 7 days after primary is done)

Yeast
Wyeast 1056

I fixed the video so it's now embedded.

I know a lot of folks aren't fans of the idea of going ONLY citra...but it totally works and it's DELISH.

The problem with 100% citra is totally contextual. Drink only this beer in one sitting and you'll probably enjoy it. Try a couple other beers then come back to it ... and the cat piss smell slams you in the face. It's really weird.

I was wondering about that. The cat piss was never really coming through for me. Probably for the best. :)

This supposed cat piss smell is news to me! Is this a well known thing? I have several ounces of citra chilling for a beer I'm about to brew. =/

Yes, it's commonly known. If you want a good laugh do some googling on citra and cat piss.

I actually think it smells more like our litter box than straight pee, but maybe that's putting too fine a point on it. Either way, I made sure to never drink other beer before my last citra ipa, which was only 50-60% citra (!).

Well fnuk, have a citra smash recipe ready, we're using as a base for a test concept of a mango beer =/
