Tasted first batch, brewed another

Last Sunday, I brewed my first beer (Diamond Knot IPA clone)
Last night I racked it to the carboy for secondary, and stole a taste.
It was not awesome, but actually much more better than I thought it would be. Definitely hints of the real deal in there! This may turn out after all:rockin:

After that, I brewed up a Nut Brown ale, again a partial mash kit (I'm short on time to learn a whole grain recipe at the moment)
I don't know how it will turn out, but this one smelled wonderful while boiling it up!
Not nearly as much hops as the IPA, but another half pound of grain.
This was a great looking mix of light, and dark grains, that filled the shop with a most delicious aroma! looking forward to this one

I agree. After I found a way to hold mash temps,brewing with grains & some extract got to a whole other level. Lots of flavor complexities to play with.

A question while I'm here...
I "upgraded my kit with Wyeast liquid yeast, and am very impressed with how actively it begins fermenting. Also the local brew shop told me this yeast would give a better taste.
Any thoughts on this? Would the dry yeast included in the kit work just as well?
Would the dry yeast taste as good?

Different yeasts produce different flavors & esters. That's why liquid yeasts are suited to a particular style. They produce part of the flavor associated with that style of beer. Dry yeast are a bit more generic in that they either produce fruity esters,or ferment clean.Both can work equally well fermentation-wise,but the liquid yeasts are more precise flavor-wise.

For complex beers, liquid yeasts are better. For clean, high-attenuating beers, dry can work fine for less.
