I finally got my CO2 tank filled today and attached my Taprite Dual Regulator to see how it worked. Well, it wasn't good. When I opened the valve on the tank CO2 sprayed out at the connection of both number displays, to the point you could see the plumber's tape moving severely. Something tells me this isn't right. Does anyone have any suggestions about how to go about this? Is this a Taprite issue or an issue that I need to try to reassemble the regulator with more tape? I'm hoping it's just my inexperience with the regulator that's the problem! Thanks for the help.

Tim

Here is a short video of what I mean. Watch the plumber's tape on the left side toward the tank.

I can't watch the movie on my phone. But I caN tell you that you don't use Teflon tape with co2. You should have a washer between the regulator nipple and the valve face. The threads squish that washer to make a seal.

Is that a new regulator? The direction that the tape is blowing, it looks like it's leaking where the regulator attaches to the tank. There's supposed to be a gasket there between the tank valve and the regulator; either a permanent one or a removable one. Any chance you're missing it?

Here's an example of the permanent type and the removable nylon one.

It's a new one right out of the box. I don't see a washer at all. Maybe it came with it and it's still in the box. I'll have to look later today when I get home. I was wondering about that when I was investigating this issue. Hopefully it's in there and all will be well. Thanks for the help!

As far as the plumber's tape, that is how it came to me. I didn't put any on.

Mystery solved (I think).....I had my daughter look in the box it came in and sure enough, there was a nylon gasket in there!! I will put that on when I get home and check it again. Thanks for all the help with this! You guys are amazing!

Yeah, looks like the washer just isn't in place. My Taprite has the rubber permanent one while my last regulator had a nylon one.

Success!! I put the gasket in and it worked great. I do, however have another issue that I just noticed....The needle on the low pressure display is underneath the pin that stops it from going past 0. Now what do I do??

If you bought it new, return it. If not, pop off the cover plate and lift the needle over the peg.

I emailed Taprite, since this is new, and they told me to pop off the cover and move it. This took a little more power to do than I thought as I didn't want to damage it. After some careful prying I got the cover to come off, moved the needle and all is finally fine! I'm very glad to say it was all operator error as it now works like a champ! Thanks for all the help!

Good to hear you got it working. Things like that can be really frustrating. I picked up a pair of secondary regulators from a local discount store last year. One worked fine out of the box, but the other one leaked from the body. Replacement #1 also leaked from the body. Replacement #2 had a bad safety valve (leaked). On the fourth one I finally got a good one.

That's brutal! I was hoping that scenario wouldn't happen here. I know Taprite is a great brand so I would have been surprised had the regulator been a dud. I emailed Taprite with both issues and they replied very quickly with solutions and a willingness to make it right. Highly recommend their product because they care!

That's odd. Usually Taprite plastic gauge covers are threaded on. Righty tighty, lefty loosey. No prying needed.

I know what you're talking about, but trust me when I say this one wasn't a turn to open....I had to unscrew the two screw on the back of the gauge to loosen it and then use a tiny screwdriver to pry the top off. The other two gauges would pop right off but not this one. It was weird but it works so I'm good!

Was it a Kegco brand, per chance ?.........

No, the ones I found were Micromatic 8011's. The place I got them was a discount store. They deal in surplus stuff, damaged freight, etc...kind of a "dented can" store. The regulators were all new in sealed factory boxes, but something must have happened to them considering so many had problems. I can't complain too much though. I paid $45 for the pair which is less than half of what Micromatic charges on their website.
