For those that feel emasculated by the term, feel free to think of it as Someone instead of She. Now you can be SWMBO instead, and stop worrying about what terms the rest of us use to refer to our significant other.

The only thing about SWMBO I don't like is that they think they must be obeyed.

(Disclaimer: I've been known to have misogynistic views)

I resent that in many tv shows, movies and commercials, it seems OK for girls/women to step all over boys/men. And that the men seem too willing to be stepped on in the hopes that they might get lucky next weekend.

This is probably why I'm currently alone. I'm not willing to put up with this nonsense.

A man after my own heart. I don't obey anyone.

And I don't talk about "gender" when the topic is "sex," as in, "people discriminate against men because of their sex."

And I don't say "they" when I mean "he," as in "a German should drink as much Helles as he likes."

And I don't say "person" when "man" will do, as in "He's a good man."

And no, I'm not misogynistic -- I like women more than men... or one, at least, more than any man.

Does anyone else think it's lame when some new person comes in and starts telling people that have been around much longer to stop doing stuff because they don't like it?

Anyone else find the "stop doing stuff that makes you happy because I don't like it and for some reason am unable to just not participate" thing overused?

also, why do all people new to drinking craft beers love Session IPA so much?

I hate session IPA

using the term SWMBO makes you happy? that's really sad bro

Acronyms...acronyms bother me. It's a pain in the ass to read a post while searching the web to find out what the acronyms stand for.

I say all acronyms should be banned. Changed approved!

Because a self righteous prohibition of it's use is twice as ludicrous as the acronym itself. Why does it matter? Why is it important to you?
Im in no position to prohibit anything. I just wanted to get a feeling of how many people are on here that want to defend something stupid and how many people recognize your little acronym as stupid. I have learned a lot today.

Well, we're not butthurt because we're in love with il using the acronym SWMBO. Lots of us like the little traditions that exist on this forum, some of which are kinda silly, but still fun. And some of us find it ridiculous when someone picks an argument over the "worth" of our silly little traditions.

Yes.. the little fun musings. The comradery. The community that is here other than just to give little fellas like you free advice. Is something that I enjoy. If it isn't something you enjoy. Kindly get your free advice from the people so willing to help you out.. and leave.

I was about to type this, most verbatim.

And a rant about linguistic prescriptivism because that crap irks the hell out of me, and my wife.

I call her my wife about 90% of the time, BTW, FWIW.

I don't know I have heard many terms over the years, "Your better half", "The old ball and chain", "The waheen" and others. They are meant to be funny that's all.........

Ive got some free advice for you... swmbo is lame. using it is lame, if using it makes you feel like you are in some cool fraternity of internet posters using swmbo, you need more to do with your life. comradery cant be found in strangers on a hobby website forum.

I'm starting to think you don't want to be friends with us. Which is totally cool.

Now I know you're just trolling.

that isn't necessarily true. I think the acronym is stupid. I think defending its use because of the "cool comradery" that must be associated with its use is really weird. If what I said is somehow inflammatory, its because you are sensitive and defensive about the subject matter. you think swmbo is a cool thing to use when talking about brewing beer.

I understand most of you will continue to use this lame expression, so be it. I came in here for beer advice as Im still learning as everyone really should be.

Then maybe stick to that and leave something this inconsequential alone?

Also, perhaps you could broaden your vocabulary to words other than "lame" and "stupid" in almost every post and actually explain what you feel is wrong with it. Otherwise you come off sounding like a middle-schooler.

Again... if you don't like what we do here.. go elsewhere for your information. I assure you, no one will miss you.

Come on people, just ignore this guy (or maybe lady?). Someone start another "why does everyone like IPAs thread".

Not so much that as I don't really give a crap one way or another. I use the terms "my wife" and "SWMBO" interchangeably on here, and you have yet to explain how "I think it's lame" is sufficient reason for me to change.

I think "wifey" is a lame term, but I'm not about to stop you from using it if you feel so inclined.

And this says what about the person complaining about it so much?

I don't think its offensive. I don't have a better reason that its lame. when something is lame do you have to describe in detail why it is lame? or should most simply recognize that something is lame
