Quick question. I brewed an imperial pale ale on Saturday night and as of last night there was still a ton of hop debris suspended. Will this fall? Or should I plan on straining?

I would cold crash a couple days before bottling and most the stuff in suspension should settle out.

I brew a lot of beers like this and at 3 days I'd say this is pretty typical. It will fall out on its own, even without cold crashing, if you let it sit ~3 weeks.

As others mentioned, let it sit in primary for a couple weeks and most everything will clear out. If you want your finished beer to be even clearer, you can cold crash, use fining agents like isinglass or gelatin, or utilize a filtering mechanism with your siphon. Regardless, don't strain by pouring your finished beer, as that will introduce unwanted oxygen.

And give it some time!!! 3 days in is WAY too early to be worried about whether or not the beer will clear!

Absolutely! I have never had a beer have so much hoppy pieces. Just wanted to make sure it's ok. Still pretty new! Thanks so much for the help.

Are the 'hoppy pieces' some hop sludge that made it from the boil kettle into your fermenter or is it just a chunky krausen? Some yeast strains can look like hunks of tofu flying around your fermenter as well.

Sounds like your fermentation is perfectly normal, all that stuff will settle out in a couple weeks.

I made a Imperial Pale Ale kit from Brewer's Best. It had a lot more hops than I usually get in my kits, and when after I used my wort chiller, I moved it over to the fermenter and there was just a lot of hops coming through. they weren't at the bottom, which i attributed to having the wort cooled inside of 20 minutes.

I took the gravity last night, and noticed it's chock full of STUFF, which could be hops, could be grain-type material, I really don't know, it's just more than usual.

You guys are awesome!
