Has anyone here attempted a Surlyfest clone? I know it is a Marzen style made with Crystal Rye and Summit hops. I would like to make this number two on my list of lagers to brew. Unfortunately I don't have any left to try to figure out a recipe from.

I am brewing a beer this weekend based on SurlyFest. Here is the information from the brewery's website:

STYLE: NOT a German Style Oktoberfest Bier
MALT: Vienna, Rye
HOPS: Sterling
YEAST: German Lager

OG: 14.5º Plato
ABV: 6.0% v/v
COLOR: 14 ºL
IBU: 34
AVAILABILITY: Septemberish

The site also mentions that they dry-hop with Sterling.

I am going to try a 65/35 vienna/rye split for my brew and will be hopping with a combination of Cascade and Mt. Hood. I will also be using either Wyeasts California Lager yeast, or just Safale 05 since I can't keep temps low enough for a German Lager.

Cheers!
Kevin

Just brewed this up today This is what I ended up doing

9 lb Vienna
1 lb rye malt
1 lb crystal rye malt
1 lb flaked rye
1 lb rice hulls

mashed for 60 mins at 152

1 oz Sterling ( first wort hop)
1 oz Sterling (5min)
1 oz Sterling (to be dryhopped following lager phase)

2 packs of Saflager 34/70 yeast

ferment at 53 followed by diacetyl rest and 2 month lagering phase

This beer turned out fantastic. If I were to make any changes I may cut back a tad on the crystal and flaked rye as there is a bit more body than I was hoping for. I am thinking about entering this into competition. The best beer I have made up to this point
