I am in a vacation destination and the bizarre shift in clientele is astonishing in a lot of ways.
When I lived in Myrtle Beach, we had four such walmarts and they were all zoos on the weekends during check in/check out. You pretty much avoid doing any shopping during tourist season unless you do it at 7 am on a weekday. In a beach town, if it frigging rains, you better just stay inside and avoid the malls and the movie theaters, too. Restaurants, likewise, need to be enjoyed through reservations. If they don't accept reservations, just avoid them completely.
That, or risk dealing with the self empowered "F U i'm on vacation so kiss my ass" crowds.
Not a fan of Walmart. They don't make good neighbors. They move into towns and put the small business owners out of business. I avoid them if possible. Hope they don't get into selling homebrewers supplies.
That would be like the Walmart eye of Sauron turning on it's own InBev orcs. Never happen.
I worked at a super Wal-mart for a few years in my college days. I will NEVER do that again! Plus, I wouldn't be able to support my family on that $7.65/hour. I don't know what their pay is now, but I'm assuming it's somewhere close to that still.
I made the mistake of applying for a job there in my younger years, too. It was for a position in the garden department. I was called in for what I thought was an interview, which turned out to be more like an interrogation by two men that asked me "what if" scenarios for an hour. It was truly bizarre.
