So I'm just getting into yeast storage and propagation, and I'm wondering if anyone more experienced than me has any suggestions on about 5 different yeast strains that would be good to have on hand at all times. I usually brew English ale, sasion, Stouts, Mead, and Kolsch. Just looking for a few educated opinions on different strains and comparisons of brands. Are there any strains which will hold up better over time?

I would think if you brew all those styles, you would have some opinion on what you would like to collect already??? If I suggested a different strain that what you like to use, why would you believe me over your personal experience?

Maybe I don't fully understand your question...

WLP007 for the English ale, stout and kolsch.
Mead: D47 for most things, 71-B for Melomels and EC-1118 for stuck fermentations or extremely dry meads.
Saison: WLP 565 and let it ferment all the way out for a month.

I o all White Lab- so keep a WLP-001 good for just about anything
WLP-002 for English Ales; WLP-550 for Belgian Ales; WLP-004; and the WLP720 for Sweet Meads. These are the general ones that I keep on hand for yeast starters. I do have other yeasts, but they are for specific type brews.
