I'm brewing a ESB and it calls for 1 pkgsLondon ESB Ale (Wyeast Labs #1968)

I need a substitute since my store does not carry it. Any input?

WLP002. S-04 will definitely work in a pinch and is a great suggestion, but to me it has far less of that beautiful English character that you're looking for if a recipe calls for 1968/002.

It's hard for me to get liquid yeast here in Japan, but when I get my hands on 1968 I re-pitch that stuff for as long as I possibly can. Although it can be a little 'moody', it's truly amazing yeast.

I've used 1968 and WLP002 and loved both. I would never do an English Ale without one of those yeasts. I would consider them pretty much interchangeable. I actually hate S-04 and have seen many other people on various homebrew sites say the same thing. Regardless of what you think of S-04, it will not give you the same profile as either of the afore mentioned strains.
