So early this summer I purchased my first pump, a center inlet chugger pump. I tested it out with water and quickly realized that a priming outlet would work. I built that and successfully tested a couple of more times with water. Worked great. Then I left it in storage for several months because I had other things to work out.
Yesterday was my first brew day with the pump. I set it up to whirlpool at the end of the session. I started it with 10 minutes left in the boil to sanitize it and left it running at flame out. 15 minutes later it started to slow down and then eventually stopped working. I could hear power going to it but it's not spinning.
I emailed the manufacturer and they haven't replied. I emailed the retailer and they say the impeller is stuck and I should take the head off, clean it and it should work. So I took the head off and cleaned it(bone dry with nothing to clean). I briefly plugged it in with the head off and it spins perfectly. Put the head back on and it won't spin.
Should there be grease or oil in between the stainless and the plastic? It seems that it's binding where they join.
