On EVERY batch I have made, (my beers have been pretty good), but yet on EVERY one there was this distinct taste, nothing I could put my finger on, just something I could notice where no one else seemed to ??
Not a taste regarding flavor, or even a bad taste, just something ???

But on my most recent batch that particular taste is gone !!!

The only thing different this time is I used a wort chiller versus the old ice bath's......

Could this have been my cure all along ??.......

Ok, I'll answer my own post. On my next batch I'll use the wort chiller again, if the same results abhere I credit the chiller.........

Yes a wort chiller is the way to go. I would also recommend a fermenter chiller of some kind. I use the 38DD and it works great.

AG or Extract? If AG it is possible the slow chill time allowed a degree of DMS to re-develope. Without any description it could be anything. The fact that you taste it and no one else does simply could be that you have a much lower threshold for that flavor than others.

Perhaps this will help: http://www.beerjudgeschool.com/uploads/Beer_Characteristics_Flash_Cards.pdf

Did you use the same yeast strain too in all the batches as well as fermentation temps?

could be from your ice.

Is the water filtered? boiled? is it an automatic ice maker in the freezer? many factors can go into it.

The faster chill with the wort chiller could be the cause. As duboman said, it is likely that you have a lower taste threshold for that flavor than your friends do.

Yep, frozen 1/2 gallon water containers right into the wort. And as it cools in the sink I run cold water around the BK while stirring the bottles.........

Well I guess that's one possibility for the off flavor. You changed the one thing that was in common with all the batches with the off flavor and it went away, so that may be it.

Now, I'm not going to say that submerging plastic bottles in near-boiling liquid isn't safe (because I almost always reheat leftovers in plastic containers), but someone else might. They make plastic containers for cooling near boiling soup and I doubt it's any special plastic, so you're probably fine, but before I got my immersion chiller, I never put anything in the wort; all the ice and containers with ice went in the sink around the pot.

Yes, that hypothesis is indeed valid !!!..........I think there are several guys here that also use frozen bottles, I wonder if they had that same flavor I mentioned ?..............:pipe:
