When I was making a starter I opened the yeast and it smelled strange.
But I made the starter anyway and it produced yeast and I poured off most
of the liquid to leave the remaining 150ml or so of yeast + wort.

Now 3 days later in the fermenter, the beer has the same smell. Its still
fermenting, but I wonder if this smell will go away or not ?

Any similar experiences ? Am I up for a rush rebrew ?

What does it smell like?

Fermentation typically smell pretty bad, and different yeast strains smell different. I've smelled everything from skunk/sulphur to flowers to sour to fruity to baby food in fermentations that ended up as perfectly good beers.

Once you make the starter, the yeast are already giving off funky smells as normal course of business.

I'd say there's a pretty good chance that you are absolutely fine. RDWHAHB and finish out the beer.

Possibly smelled sulphery - stinky.

Gravity sample didn't taste rancid, maybe a bit sour, but it was still fermenting and somewhat carbonated.

I'll see what it does at the end of the week.

Thanks.
