hey guys,

I'm planning on a stout as my next all grain brew. What do you think about this recipe? I'd love to hear some comments!

volume: 12 liter
OG: 1.085
expected FG: 1.024
ABV: 7,9%
Bitterness: 76 IBU
Color: 122 EBC

Boiltime: 60 mins

Grains:
1,9 kg Pilsner
1,8 kg Pale Ale
270 g Special B
250 g chocolate malt
180 g roasted barley

Mash:
60 mins @ 68 celsius
5 mins @ 78 celsius

Hops:
17 g Columbus (15,8%) @ 40 mins
22 g Columbus (15,8%) @ 20 mins

Yeast and fermentation
11,5 g Danstar - Nottingham
no temperature control

I'd love to hear what you guys think of this :mug:

I like what you've done here... I like round, easy numbers though, so I'd round up on the base malts. Looks like a good American stout.

Makes my head hurt too >_<

I too think it looks like a well rounded stout with a nice hop kick to it.

With almost 4 lbs of pilsner you might consider a longer boil (75-90 min) to help prevent DMS in your final product.

Probably gonna do that too... I'm thinking of replacing all my pilsner for pale ale... I think it will stay more in character of the beer type then...

Metric makes my head hurt! :drunk:

Sorry guys, I'm dutch and calculating everything to imperial was a big pain in the ass ;)

The idea was a nice dark roasty stout with a good and hefty hop kick to it :D

i'll keep that in mind, thanks for the tip... I'm probably gonna make this one with full pale ale malt though...
