As of last weekend I made my first AG, a stout as the title implies. I have 3.5 gal. in the primary and was planning on taking 2.5gal and bottling next week. However, I'd like to do something different with the remaining gallon. Any suggestions as to what I could add in the secondary w/ the remaining stout?

Coffee, whiskey, oak, cherries, chocolate, licorice. Those are all classic options. There's funny stuff, too, but it all depends upon how adventurous you're feeling.

Those all sound good. I was wondering if I could mix pie filling in the secondary ie: cherry, blueberry etc.
I also saw a fruit flavored syrup. Would either if these be a viable route. I like the sound of oak but would that show up in a stout?

Try the trusted route first. You don't have to buy through them, either. Lots of homebrewing stores carry this product line. It's likely the next best thing to fresh fruit.

Oh, absolutely. If you want to get the full effect, find a brewery that oaks their standard RIS, and get one of each (standard and oak aged). Yeti is pretty easy to find, and not too crazy expensive. Drink them side by side. Should be fun and educational. :drunk:
