I've been making wine for a few years and want to try brewing a beer for the holidays. I have an extract kit of Irish Red Ale. Also I have a few corny kegs and CO2 that was used in wine-making (filtering, purging and such). I want to ferment the Irish Red, filter it into a keg, and carbonate it. However, I don't have a kegerater or other method to keep a 5gal keg cold for 3 months. Will the beer keep in a keg at room temps for this long? Over the holidays, can I chill the keg in an ice-water bath?

The beer should keep fine in the keg. I've done this for my brews. I make sure to purge the oxygen out of my conditioning/serving keg with CO2 to prevent mold from harming the beer during storage.

I've stored warm corny kegs for months at a time. The beer style will make a difference. If you keep it around 65F-70F you should be fine. The basement is a good place.
