Per Craft Business Daily:

Stone just had to lay off about 5% of its workforce. They are among the segment's largest employers with more than 1,100 employees.

The company's leadership has attributed the cuts to, among other things, a "recent decline in domestic growth for the category and for Stone." The company says the layoffs will help them stay competitive and profitable.

"Due to an unforeseen slowdown in our consistent growth and changes in the craft beer landscape, we have had to make the difficult decision to restructure our staff," wrote Dominic. "Unfortunately, this comes despite a year that includes the incredible accomplishments of opening two new breweries, which are ultimately expanding the availability of Stone beers and boosting the reputation of American craft beer in Europe.

Who would have guessed that opening two breweries in one year might create a capital crunch?

For me, Stone jumped the shark when they announced the crowdfunding for the Berlin project.

I can count on one hand how Stone beers I've purchased since then.

Bummer people have lost jobs though.

They did crowdfunding for that? What the hell. Except for now, i wouldn't see Stone so strapped for cash that they would rely on ******* kickstarter or gofundme to help build a new brewery.

It was also around that time where every new brewery was going on kickstarter and getting full funding from local derps who financed the brewery because it would be local. Kind of hard to look at all that free money and not try to grab some. It was a dick move for sure but I felt that way about every brewery that financed itself that give-us-$100-we'll-give-you-a-pint-glass kickstarter way.

Because kids these days don't respect their elders.

"kids these days are lazy! they don't know the first thing about hard work! they expect awards for everything! totally someone else's fault... not our generation who raised these kids... you know how it is, amiright? my generation got it right."

-some guy in 1823

music, art, old people vitriolic subjects

everything is cyclical, forever and always

Does anyone even think Stone is relevant anywhere anymore? And did they when they started this project? Construction overruns... yeah okay.
lol... i can't remember the last time I had a stone beer. It was likely one of those enjoy bys... had to be well over a year or two ago.

I love the "I take full responsibility for the failure. But the German construction industry ****** me over. Also, Berliners only like cheap, ****** beer." What a *******.

And of course ******* Brewdog is taking over the facility. Like Mikkeller, they seem to have endless capital for their mediocre products. It's baffling.

Mikkeller >>>>>>>> Brewdog
