Stepping Up a Yeast Starter

This is my first time stepping up a starter. I started with a 2L starter and stepping up with a 3L starter next. My question is after I decant the 2L starter can I just pour the boiled and cooled 3L starter right on top of the yeast cake from the decanted 2L starter or do I need to use a new container?

Keep it in the same container. Make sure your funnel and tip and outside of the container are sanitized prior to transfer.

Thanks for the reply. That is what I figured, but wasn't sure if there was some reason not to. I am stepping it up now so that my yeast can be ready for this weekend'w brewing session.
