When a recipe calls for steeping crystal malt 60L should they be whole or crushed? Does it matter? if so how?
 
All steeping grains need to be crushed to extract the sugars that are inside the kernel. Indeed, all the grains you use for brewing need to be crushed for the same reason. If the water can't get to the insides it can't get anything back out.
 
Thanks so much. New to brewing and this is the first time I have moved away from beer in a box kits.
