STC-1000 Control enclosure

Slowly building up my gadgets and ordered a couple of these for fermentation chamber control and for other temperature monitoring.

Just got the enclosure all finished and ready to hook up for my next brew.

Attached a 1/8 mono plug to the probe so I can remove it when not in use.

The wiring appears to be incorrect. Power to the receptacles needs correction. The controller functions as a switch for the HOT leg. Neutral should be wired directly to the receptacles.

Agreed. I believe there should only be one neutral to the controller in the 1 or 2 position with a hot. 3 and 4 are the tc. 5 and 7 should be hot. 6 and 8 should be the switched power to the receptacals if my memory serves me correctly.

Wow, good eyes around here. I had things mis-wired while I was tinning all the wire ends to check my lengths

In reading about the STC-1000 builds, I have seen warnings about using solid wiring, as the terminal blocks are made for "stranded" wire.

Wouldn't a "tinned" wire end qualify as a "solid ", ( albeit softer), wire?

I didn't see anything in the directions that were included with mine about using stranded wire only, but I suppose that could be an issue. Would it be an issue with good contact or with them pulling loose?

Great solution with the headphone-jack.

Not to hijack, but can you cut the stc-probe wiring, and if you are sure the resistance of the two leads you extend/connet it with is the same, just re-wire it?

I could be mistaken, but I THINK, is that they could loosen up, possibly with expansion cycles, ( however minute), that the terminals might see.

Maybe one of those electrical types will chime in if they see this.

My stranded wire is all tinned, no issues so far and I'm running three of these.
