i finially got around to buing an equitment kit and things this weekend and today I started my first batch of beer from an extract kit. Everything went perfect until i was putting the airlock on and accidently pushed the rubber gromet into the newly mixed up beer. I washed my hand and dug in after it, however, I am scared inserting my arm into the beer has messed up all the work to sanatize everything. Should I go on with it and chance having to pour out 48 bottles of bad beer or is there anyway to tell before I spend all the time bottling it?

Also can one use table sugar for priming if mixed in boiling water?

I am also hunting some bottles to use next week to bottle in. What kind is recomended? If I get used bottles to cap what precautions should I take? how should I clean them?

As long as you sanitized your arm everything should be fine.
Check this out:Gromet in beer

Wow! Pushing the grommet into the bucket while inserting the airlock. In the short time I've been a member of this forum this has to be one of the most common mishaps. I am starting to think every one does it...it's sort of a right of passage.
Maybe, when setting up equipment on brew day, a piece of equipment that should be on hand and sanitized is a tool for extracting a grommet from the wort. Maybe tongs or something although I guess a sanitized arm will do. :D

I know that for my next batch the airlock will be inserted before putting the cover on the bucket. After the cover is in place I will then add water to the airlock.

That is a great point. Fill it after the lid is on or the liquid will be sucked into the beer.:rockin:

Cheers!
