Hi All,

I'm making a Doppelbock next weekend. According to the pitch rate calculator at MrMalty.com I need a 2.8L starter.

Should I make a single 2.8L starter or step it up?

For example a 1 liter then add 2 liters?

Regards,

Chris

I routinely jump straight into a 2L starter. I also sometimes use single smack packs to make a 12L "starter" beer to be used for high gravity beers, and those work out fine also. So while your yeast might be marginally happier stepping up, you can make up to a 12L starter without issue.
