I mixed a 5 gallon batch of Starsan last night so I could bottle a batch, but I just realized I messed up and only mixed the Starsan at half strength.

Is this gonna mess up my beer, or is this nothing to worry about?

Thanks!

Half an ounce in 5 gallons water instead of the recommended 1 ounce/5 gallons.

I used that mixture to sanitize my bottling bucket, bottling wand, and tubing. I have a hand held spray bottle I use to sanitize my beer bottles, and I know the Starsan in that bottle is mixed at the proper proportion, so at least I have that going for me.

How well did you clean your stuff? I ask because even if your sanitizer is not working, there is still only a small chance of infection if you cleaned real good.

You're probably ok.

Accidents happen. I won't even tell you what stupid thing I did this weekend while brewing. I'll only say I have a lot more confidence your beer will turn out good than mine will.

i bet youll be fine. starsan is a pretty forgiving mistress. I once racked an entire beer onto ~2L of starsan I had forgotten was at the bottom of the keg and couldnt tell any difference

I Have read, from a number of sources, that sanitizer is really not needed. (that will ruffle some feathers I am sure) if your stuff is thoroughly cleaned sanitizer really is not doing anything except adding a bit of insurance. That said I prefer to have the insurance myself.
I am sure you will be just fine.

It's not just a strength thing, it's a contact time thing too. You're probably fine if your stuff was clean pre Star-San.

I guess that's one of the advantages of iodophor, the color indicates strength. If I was off half a dose, it would be obvious.

All the Best,
D. White

I would always use sanitizer on anything that touches my wort because the room I brew in i also grind my store/grind my grains along with all my other brewing activities. The potential bacteria from grain dust alone makes me shudder
