So I making a batch as i write this and just realized I stirred my yeast (rehydrating) with a spoon I just dipped in a starsan solution. Being its no rinse I didn't and just put it in. Did I just kill my yeast?

Starsan will breakdown and become a nutrient for the yeast.

as long as the it was diluted you should not have any troubles.

Uh no...starsan actually becomes yeast nutrient for the yeast. It was a GOOD thing you stirred your yeast with a sanitized spoon.

Relax. Your beer and your yeast is much hardier than that.....

Okay thank you all for the quick responses. Didn't have backup yeast either so it was going in either way but your reassurances mean a lot.

What did you rehydrate it in? I would have hit that container with starsan too. And the knife you opened the yeast with. And the yeast package. And most certainly the spoon.

I rehydrated in a pyrex glass measuring cup that i had sanatized and rinsed an hour or so earlier. I guess I was just nervous because I literally dunked the spoon in there directly after having it in the sanitizer.

And most of yourself as well:D, but try to avoid getting it in your eyes and nose. I does burn a bit.:cross:

Don't worry at all. It won't hurt a thing. StanSan won't hurt it one bit. Actually if the spoon had dried out, it wouldn't be sanitized. StarSan is most effective when still wet on the spoon. I have a spray bottle filled with it and I regularly spray down all items that will come in contact with the wort/yeast.

I usually Boil some water in a sauce pan when I start heating my strike water. I sanitize a pint jar, lid and band in starsan and pout 1/2 pint of boiling water into the jar and cap. I let that cool until I start cooling my wort and then I ad my dry yeast to that to rehydrate until the wort is cool and in the fermenter. Then I give the jar of yeast a swirl and pour the contents into the fermenter. I have never had a problem with this so I would guess you will be just fine. :mug:
