Hello all, I'm using my conical fermenter for the first time and brewed my beer on Friday evening, it is a nut brown ale. My buddy said after 2 or 3 days drain some of the trub out of bottom.

I went down and forgot to take airlock out when I opened bottom and it sucked maybe a 1/8 of an inch from the airlock ( I use the round style). He even told me to take it out and I made a noob mistake lol. I would think the beer should be okay. The solution is from when I brewed. And it's diluted. Any input would be helpful thanks.

So, really just a few drops into 5? gallons. There is absolutely nothing to worry about. You had more than that on the inside of the fermenter when you sanitized it. Unless you let it dry, which you should not do.

You can safely drink the Starsan solution, mixed to the correct proportions.

No no I didn't let it dry, I dumped it out right before I transferred from kettle, and yes it's 5 gallon batch

Not a problem. Done that a few times without any issue. Much worse when you have a blow-off tube that sucks a whole bunch back into the fermenter, but even that has never really caused a flavor problem.

I see this a lot and always wonder why people think that when an airlock has about an ounce of Starsan solution, they feel the need to have the blow-off tube in a gallon of Starsan??? You only need enough to keep the end of the tube submerged. I use about 1/2 inch in the bottom of a margarine cup. That container is in a sauce pot in case of overflow.

Okay great thanks for the responses, I didn't think it would hurt but I wanted to ask anyways cheers

We did the same thing with our first brew. However we sucked in a good 1/4 gallon I'd say into a 5gal batch. The hefe was delicious and nobody died!!
