Is it okay to use Star San if I accidentally got a bit of wine or beer in it?

I use star san to start my syphon and I didn't plug the end in time and I got a few drops of wine in my santitizer container. It has a verrrrry slight red hue to it.

Toss a quart of star san? Or is it still ok?

Depends on how OCD (CDO, if you like it in alphabetical order) you are. I'd toss it, but see no reason why it wouldn't be any good.

Also depends on how much we're talking about...Little spray bottle? toss it. Five gallon+ economy size? Keep it.

Well it is a sanitizer..I would imagine that it sanitizes any liquid that it comes into contact with..especially since I'm sure it wasn't diluted it was way more parts Star San than wine.

I would say you're probably ok

I think any answer any of us give is just speculation. If you want to know with more certainty, go straight to the source. Any time I've contacted Five Star, I've received quick, informative, and honest responses.

Excellent, I honestly didn't think of this!
Thanks!

How much Star San are we talking about? If it's just a gallon or two, I'd certainly toss it and make some new. That stuff's pretty darned inexpensive.

I contacted StarSan and they said as long as the pH is within the required range it is ok to use. I'm going to buy some pH strips and keep them in my kit in case of any spills in the future.

Wine and beer are fairly acidic so I bet you are good.
