thought I'd share a laugh at my expense. I've been brewing ( attempting) , beer, wine, cider and having a fun time producing, mostly tasty concoctions.
Well here's what I found out. Starsan (unduilted) will eat and disnagrate carpet, I spilled some while pouring into my carboy. Well I now have a nice carpet free spoltch.
ps don't ask why I was doing this over carpet, brain fart 8 guess haha. So just a friendly heads up

It'll bleach laminate countertops and flooring too. Haven't done it myself but have heard of others.

Yes, at least one other person has posted that even diluted properly it'll etch granite countertops, especially brand new ones that were just installed.

All chemicals that we use are generally safe but still deserve caution, especially acids!

Yeah, there is now a nice bleached spot on my dining room table thanks to a drop of star san I unknowingly dripped on it. Use caution in any areas you don't want damaged when using undiluted star san.

I store my 32 oz bottle on a plywood shelf in the basement. Some dripped down the sides after use once and burned a black ring into the wood.

And the laminate countertop thing is real. A drop I spilled onto mine took the gloss out of the formica. The color is still there, but there's now a dull spot the size of a dime.

I now keep the bottle in a 1/2 gallon ice cream pail, as I seem to have trouble keeping it off surfaces.

Glad I'm not the only one! I'll be doing my sanitation in the bathtub or sink from now on

I wonder how well it would work to acid etch concrete? Might be pretty useful!

I have a severe acid burn the size of a dollar bill on a once very nice butcher block table.

The stupid cat knocked my starsan bottle over and the cap leaked overnight.

Also, take note, that a liquid based plug in air freshener will do the same...... God dammit..... :(

either it or pbw kills grass too. i was dumping my cleaning stuff out the back door and now have a giant yellow area in the grass. i stare at it as i'm downing homebrews.

Yeah, I found this out too. So I started dumping it in a patch of English ivy I am trying to kill. I think it somehow uses PBW as a fertilizer and is still growing like crazy.
