so i got a milk can someone challenged me to get better then 5psi in...

i was looking for my old low pressure guage, but realized i can jump my blowoff tube to the one i just took off my spare regulator....i've got a batch that's been fermenting for like 2-3 days or something, slowing down....how long does it take you pressure ferment boys to get to something like 10 psi? 20-30psi? i'm thinking i'll just let it go over night see what the guage gets up to, not going to blow the can, because, the gauge would pop off probably around 15..

just some chit chat, i pulled the gauge off to put more pipe tape on it, and it had pressure, but still reading zero? got a hose clamp on it now too....

(but being i'll need to know this anyway? how long for 10 psi?)

My two pressure gauges that aren't part of my regulators (one analog one digital) are worthless at low pressures (below ~5psi maybe). I would hope that's not true of one that comes with a spunding valve. Your milk can venture is intriguing.

Come to think of it, the gauge in my kegland spundies doesnt work well under 5 psi too.

Depends on when the yeast take off. usually 12 (kveik) to 48 hours.

this is a dying down ferment, so it's gone through most active, and just finishing....

yeah i think so too! can't wait to try it with proper ball lock bulk heads....but just in case, i want a heads up if it will indeed hold 30-40 psi....

when do they start to register?

edit: random thought, do you think blowing a hair dryer at the gauge would make it more sensitive?

well the hair dryer seemed to work....not sure if it's just the heat or what, but the gauge is slowly creeping up at 2psi now......

we got 5 psi now so eat your heart out @Brewdog80 !!! lol the clamps are holding, and well i might have a harder time pumping it to a corny, but....once the $10 ball lock fittings are in with the floating dip tube.....i'll have to see what it hold's up to in the morning, thanks for the tip of a pinball wizard bump on the gauge folks!! ;)

( i swear a lot of the help i get here, is really indirect...but i'd never think about it otherwise! :mug: :mug:)

5 psi is great! I wonder about the wisdom of trying for 30 or more, 'cuz so many products seem to top out at max safe pressure of 15. We don't want any shrapnel in our beloved poacher!

well, i'm not sure how @Brewdog80 knew the exact psi it would hold.....but 5 psi was the max! (kinda glad too, thinking about letting a 16 gallon fermenter turn into a bottle bomb, gives me the chills)...5psi is enough for a pressure transfer though isn't it? i think most people do it at 2psi right?

(footnote, i put a c clamp on the area of the lid it was leaking from, and it started building more pressure)

yeah, i started getting timid, i clamped the lid with a c clamp, and it was building more pressure....but my better judgement told me..."hey this is an active ferment i got going, i'll wait till i can test it with a regulator under control!"

The Fermzilla's are rated to 35. I'm never been able to tell a difference if over 15 psi. I always shoot for ten during fermentation and raise it to 15 at the end.

well i put my spare reg back together and have it fudged onto the fermenter now.....hoping i can use it as a spunding valve.....if it works i am SO posting a picture of this work of art! lol
