This is a New Glarus farmhouse ale that I would really like to clone. Does anyone have a recipe for it?

One of my friends made the "Speckled Heifer" beer from Northern Brewer, and I assume it's supposed to be a Spotted Cow clone from the name of the beer. It was an extract batch, and it was very good. It was so good I helped kick that keg, and he ordered another batch to do right away.

I don't know if it's all that close to Spotted Cow, as it's been a long time since I've had it.

I don't think it can be made extract ... it has flaked corn in it for sure and that has to be mashed .... that speckled heifer recipe from Northern brewer is a mini mash for that reason .... if you love that beer the way I do you'll be smashing grains before you know it ... I just do it in a bag on my stovetop ... really simple and really good beer.

I just got sad. I'll be all grain in about two months so I guess I'll just have to wait.

if you do take a shot at a clone or the NB kit, I'd definitely suggest the kolsch yeast from white labs ... wl029 ... if you don't make starters yet, that's ok ... that yeast works fine directly pitched into 1.050 and under wort IMO and in my experience ... good luck !!

brewing a spotted cowish version of a cream ale with the 029 tomorrow. i think i have it at 17% corn, a little flaked barley, a little munich, a little 20l crystal, and the rest 2 row. anxious to see how the kolsch yeast works out.

Sounds like what I brew except there is also some pilsner in mine ... the 029 rawks. Good luck and cheers

Brewing 5.5 gal AG version tonight. This will be my first go with WLP029 German Ale/Kolsch. Made a 1/2 L starter yesterday and I can t wait to get this one in the carboy.
BTW... I'm open to suggestions or tips on the 029. Figuring on using a swamp cooler as my ferm freezer will be tied up with my Dopplebock for another 6 weeks.

I pitch it at 75 and dropped it to 64 during the bulk of fermentation ... some sulfer will kick in at about day 4, but it goes away over the next week ... i really believe that's the yeast new glarus uses in the real thing .. good luck

I'm getting ready to brew 10gal of NB's recipe (All Grain) this Saturday. Ended up getting all of the ingredients from my LHBS. I bought S-05 yeast, but I am tempted to do 5gal with either WLP cream ale, or WLP029. I'll let you know if I do, and what big differences there are.

I can't get over how light this wort is. I do fly sparge and I was checking the gravity constantly for the last 2 gal cause it just looks like water. As it turns out I hit 1.010 last hansel just as I hit kettle full. :rockin:
