- Tasting Notes
- Amazing grapfruit and peach aroma from hops. Smooth and drinkable IPA.
Decided to make an IPA with Medusa (neomexicanus) as the aroma hops. Smells and tastes amazing. I have an AG and an extract recipe.
AG:
10 lbs 2-Row
1 lb. Caramel 40
(Mash for 60 mins @ 152F)
2 oz. Cascade [5.3% AA] (60 mins)
1 oz. Medusa [3.0% AA] (20 mins)
1 Whirlfloc tablet (10 mins)
1 oz. Medusa [3.0% AA] (5 mins)
1 oz. Medusa [3.0% AA] (flameout)
1 oz. Medusa [3.0% AA] (dry hop - 4-7 days)
Extract:
.5 lb. Caramel 40 (steeped for 20 mins @ 155F)
6 lbs. Gold/light LME
2 lbs. Gold/light DME (late addition, 15 mins)
2 oz. Cascade [5.3% AA] (60 mins)
1 oz. Medusa [3.0% AA] (20 mins)
1 Whirlfloc tablet (10 mins)
1 oz. Medusa [3.0% AA] (5 mins)
1 oz. Medusa [3.0% AA] (flameout)
1 oz. Medusa [3.0% AA] (dry hop - 4-7 days)
In either case, use either Safale US-05 or Wyeast 1056. Make a 1L starter for the 1056 with a stir plate and you're good. I used two packs of US-05 non-rehydrated and got 80% attenuation from an OG of 1.061 to a FG of 1.012 - about 6.4% ABV.
Amazing aroma from this brew. Citrus, grapefruits, peaches, just fantastic. Great malt backbone but with that great IPA bitterness. Very drinkable.
