I purchased some new equipment and have this saturday set aside for some free time to brew a batch, but have realized that I forgot to purchase a 21 inch stainless steel spoon to stir the 5 gallons with while its boiling. Anyone have any suggestions on random things around the house I could use instead?

Frying pans work pretty well if they've got a decent handle. They probably won't reach to the bottom, but they can move a lot of fluid.

I use a regular old slotted spoon (like a serving spoon, about 14 inches long maybe) for stirring my mash. I rarely stir during the boil because it's rolling around on its own and stuff, but it works fine.

Well you could also use a large steel serving spoon if you have any. I mean the stamped srteel ones that are maybe 18" long. I have the 18" plastic spoon from my Cooper's micro brew kit,& a plastic 24" paddle from Midwest Supplies. They don't scratch either.

I use a grill spatula, the one I use is telescoping so it calapses for storage, the paddle part has slots so grain can pass throw it when stirring it works really well.
