Soaking Oak Chips in Wine

I am making an Irish red ale and was going to put half of it on some wine soaked oak.
Does anyone have any suggestions on soaking techniques and or amount of time to let the chips soak?
 
As little as a week but not more than say 4. I had some weird film firm when I soaked an oak pack in wine for 4 weeks. It was a red wine, left at room temp in the dark. I plan on using mine in a week.
